"The technician cleaned and calibrated the air conditioner. He pointed out that we had a part that was aging and could possibly fail at any time. He asked if we wanted to replace it. We told him to do what he needed to do to get the air conditioner working at full capacity. He quoted a price of $132. After checking our account, he returned to tell us that the part is covered under the 10 year warranty. He was very thorough and meticulous with his work.
We have dealt with Duggan for 8 years and had our unit serviced spring and fall each year. The office always communicates with the customer and let you know when the technician is on the way. During the eight years, all the technicians were knowledgeable, professional and  are always very polite. They wear shoe covers when in the house and leave their work area clean.
Highly recommend Duggan.

"The mantra ?Go big, or go home? seems to be popular these days. If you?re looking for an HVAC installer, though, bigger is not necessarily better. ?Do it right, or don?t do it at all,? makes much more sense when it comes to your home comfort.  At the very least, that should be the motto of Miller Services, who installed a new heat pump system in our home this May.

The Project
Our 17-year-old Lennox compressor unit died, and we decided at that age that a complete new system was a better economic choice. We wanted to replace it with a system of comparable size (2.5) and a minimum 15-SEER to be eligible for a Duke Energy credit ($200) and a $300 federal tax rebate. We also had a few changes we wanted to make to the system. The original heat pump was installed in a closet in the kitchen, and we wanted it moved into the attic so that we could turn the closet into a pantry. In addition, we wanted the return vent moved to a wall in our living room to circulate the warm air that hangs in the vaulted ceiling. Finally, we insisted on a programmable thermostat to automatically save energy at night and while we?re at work.
Quotes
Miller Services was one of five companies who gave us quotes on this project. Quotes came from a range of installers from local sole-proprietorships to big national retailers. Prices ranged widely from $5000 to $13000, and generally, the bigger the name, the bigger the price.
Miller Services came in at an excellent price ($5720) without cutting corners in their equipment or their installation. While some installers wanted to charge $1000 to $3000 more for moving the air handler unit into the attic, Miller Services figured in just a few hundred dollars to cover the flooring and a few additional parts (an additional outlet, emergency drain pan, PVC piping, cut-off box, etc) necessary for the attic installation.
We ultimately went with Miller for three reasons:
      1. 1. Price -- the total cost was not the cheapest, but it was very close.
      2. 2. Quality of equipment -- after researching some of the other less expensive quotes, we found that the equipment brands/models had some notable design/performance flaws. In contrast, Miller Services provided quotes for dependable brands (we went with Goodman) that juts flat-out work. Of course, you can pay twice as much for the name recognition of Trane, Carrier, etc... if you?re into that sort of thing.
      3. 3. Professionalism -- It was clear from the beginning that Charles knows his business, inside and out. He was prompt, courteous, and attentive when discussing the project, and he came prepared with two rough quotes that we fine-tuned when we discussed the details of the project.

Installation
The installation began as scheduled and was completed early the next morning, exactly as planned. Throughout the installation process, Charles and his team were both efficient and neat in their work. They quickly removed and disassembled the old unit, and they kept equipment organized in our yard and driveway while they worked.
We had one surprise, however, which could have turned into a debacle with any other company. Here is where Miller?s integrity shines through. Over the weekend following the installation, Miller Services realized that their supplier had given them a different model air handler than the one we had ordered. It met our basic specifications, but it was slightly less powerful and efficient, and we probably would have never noticed the difference.
Charles told us about the error, and he was back over with the correct air handler unit early Monday morning. It was switched out in 2.5 hours, and it works beyond our expectations. A company only concerned about their time and money could have ignored the situation or offered a ?quick fix? by refunding the price difference in equipment. Only a company truly concerned about its integrity, however, would openly admit and correct a mistake at its own expense without a prodding customer.
The Verdict
If you want an HVAC installer committed to doing things right, go with Miller Services. The big names will tell you that their reputation is on the line, and that the extra cost is only the price of a job done right. And who knows? They probably do things just fine. If you want professional service, reliable equipment, and integrity without breaking the bank, however, look no further. Miller has it all.

"We used Pro Plumbing twice, once for service and a second time to replace my water heater. Both times they were prompt and professional. The service fee for just coming out to troubleshoot was inexpensive, which was greatly appreciated. For the installation of my water heater, their rates were competitive with other plumbers in the area. The service tech (Fletcher) was knowledgeable and explained everything in detailed. He was also patient while I asked him loads of questions, and he offered me lots of options for units and how he could install them to fit our tight closet. Everything seems to be working great (it has been about 6 weeks)! I would definitely hire them again."

"Vendor install a Honeywell 7200 series thermostat in my new home, but I decided to upgrade to a 6580 WiFi unit. I did all the work myself but couldn't get the A/C to work. I called Honey well who referrred me to Enhanced Heating and A/C. I called them at 3:45 PM on a Friday afternoon and got a live person who said someone will call me back after I presented the problem I had. Around 4 PM I got a call from Sean who helped me out with the wiring and the A/C is now working."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Winston Salem, NC

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
