"We have used Affordable Air twice. We had a new unit installed in May of 2011, after the wonderful experience we had with Sam we knew immediately who we would call for our system when we had to rebuild our home. Sam is patient, ON TIME, and very honest, even if the honest answer will be less expensive. I would use Sam and Affordable A/C again in an instant."

"Great overall experience during a very hot time of the year. Our A/C decides to break in the hottest part of summer. Adrian was very helpful with the estimates and financial part of the new A/C installation. Bryce and Carlos expertly worked during one of the hottest days of the to install our new A/C. After receiving a couple of estimates, we decided to work with Daniel’s and could be happier and cooler with our decision! Thank you so much!!"

"The first technician added coolant and thought the problem was fixed. Later the same day a second technician arrived because the unit was still not cooling. The second technician discovered a broken part on the outside unit and replaced it. The second technician was very thorough and determined to find the problem. The first trip charge, with coolant, was $476.42. There was no service charge for the second trip, only for the new part, an additional $198.38."

"At first he tried some basic servicing and smaller level repair to the outdoor condensor, but eventually had to replace the 17 year old unit.  He was very professional and knowledgeable, as well as friendly.

"I have used AC Pros for annual HVAC maintenance in the past, but this year needed a new HVAC unit installed.  The techs always seem very knowledgeable and experienced.  Came out after installation to check out a problem I thought was connected to the new unit - it was not, but AC Pros did not charge me for the 1+ visit to check out the issue."

"They here were vary responsive when I called, and offered to come after hours as they were booked for that day. The leak was very small so I told them no rush. They had put a pressure regulator on about a year prior and it was leaking in the same spot. I had done some major digging in the area, and figured I hit the pipe. Tim was the one who put on the regulator originally, and said her would replace it at know cost, but because I think I may have damaged it, I insisted on paying. We agreed on half of the service call which was way more than fair. Tim was also very friendly to my 2 year old who had just seen a curious George episode about a leaky pipe and asked him about a 100 times what he was doing. I will use them again if needed. I have complete trust in their honesty, feel comfortable with them in our house, and they stand behind their work."

"I am a general contractor. I have used many plumbers/ac companies in the past. I started using this companies services about 5 yrs ago. Most of my projects are in residential remodels. Although I also deal a lot with restaurants. I wish I would have known about this company earlier. Steven not only knows how to perform, but his knowledge about what is right and wrong sets him apart. I would not hesitate to refer him to any person or contractor that asked me. I continue to use his services. And my remodels show his excellent workmanship."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Austin, TX

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
