"Airpure was excellent - our AC stopped in the middle of the recent hot spell of 90+ degree days -- they came out to look and evaluate the day I called them - and due to the extreme heat and the fact we had zero AC they were able to schedule us for replacement the very next day (after showing me exactly what was wrong and answering any questions I had and they told me exactly what the cost would be and what parts they would be using and the work that had to be done). The installers came on time and explained everything that had to be done and they were extremely professional and got the job done quickly and verified that everything was running fine and explain what I needed to keep an eye on and left me instructions how to get in touch with them if needed. They cleaned up everything after the install and things have been working great. The price of the job was exactly what was estimated on the first day - no hidden charges or surprises"

"The installers were punctual. They were very professional and friendly. They cleaned everything up before they left. There was no mess. I was very satisfied with the whole process. It's only been a few weeks since the installation so I am not able to comment on the longevity of how the units run over years or the service department."

"Two professional installers. Done in one day.  If only one person had been there for the install it would have been a 2.5 day job. With two people the job was completed in one day. I bought their recommended Amana furnace/AC. They were personable and interacted well when I had questions. If one person had been there it would have been a 2.5 day job. The unit worked the first time they turned it on and is a significant improvement. At the end of the job they thoroughly cleaned the area. And no up front money which indicated a well run business.
I had been told about other people who installed furnaces but I am confident that they were horror stories waiting to happen. This job required experienced workers. I may have paid more, but I may have ended up with a low quality (cheaper) unit as well as delays while the installer dealt with personal issues or disappeared.
This is the third time I have used Giant and each instance was totally satisfactory.
Note: I typed a more detailed review but this site caused text to disappear for no obvious reason.

"J A Sauer has well-trained, efficient, courteous installers. They communicate well, clean up after the work, take away removed equipment, and offer maintenance advice. We have used Sauer for about four years now and have a Mitsubishi Slim system and a Carrier AC system they installed. Very happy with the work--not the least expensive, I'm sure, but fair for the quality of work and equipment they offer"

"We had initially planned to work with another company, but their technicians fell ill and the project was delayed longer than we could accept. Reviews of South Hills Electric were very good, so I contacted them to bid. The initial technician they sent out underbid the project and didn't fully review all our needs. I discovered the missing information on the bid (lesson learned: always review all the details!) the day before the work was to be done. I called the office and expressed my concerns. Donna sent Natalie out to review the situation that afternoon. The quote was re-bid significantly higher than the original. However, given the situation, they renegotiated a compromise. Natalie and another technician (I'm sorry I don't remember his name) came out on time the next day. All work was performed professionally, efficiently, safely, and completely. After they left, one GFCI outlet in the kitchen wasn't working. Natalie came back immediately and replaced the outlet. She was very thorough as she worked with all of our (very old) wiring, rewrapping, capping and grounding as needed. I feel so much safer and our new fixtures look great (we bought them, but they installed). I would certainly contract with this company again."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
