"We looked at several window companies, we narrowed it down to 3; we had them come to our home for an in-depth interview (not sales...interview, because we were asking all the questions!) After checking multiple sources, we were impressed with the quality of the sliding glass door by Polar Seal. We contacted them to give them the go-ahead and they scheduled a date and time for someone to come out to take measurements. The wonderful thing about Polar Seal is they build your door/window to your exact dimensions. This is quite different from buying something from stock and having the installer fit it in with shims and foam. Another plus, is that these doors are made to your specifications, right here in Michigan! The installers came right on time on the date scheduled and before doing anything, they verified the measurements!. Once they were satisfied, they began removing the existing door. As a woman, I was particularly pleased as I watched one man cutting through the existing nails/screws/etc, while on the inside of the house, the other gentleman was holding the wand from a wet vac, sucking up all dust and particles from the removal, keeping my house clean!!! They took a great deal of time making sure everything was perfectly installed, and any little item was addressed immediately. When they were done, the work area was spotless. The door itself: The quality of this door is amazing. It's sturdy, strong, very well made. There's a double lock on the glass door, which is something I've never seen, and there's a safety "dead bolt" at the bottom left corner of the sliding door. This provides an unobtrusive second layer of security, which is well designed and easy to use. The frame of the slider is very sturdy; it's a heavier weight polymer vinyl that doesn't bend or move when you try to force it. For example, there are windows you see on display at stores, and the vinyl lip of the channel can be moved out if you push on it; not this. This is tough stuff, and along the bottom track are drainage holes so that water doesn't collect and damage the door. Our original door was wood, and it did not have the drain holes; there was rot because of that. The stationary window is very sturdy; the screen has a handle that has a special design. It isn't the typical plastic one piece screen handle. This design has you using two fingers to guide the screen in place. This keeps the screen from bending over time. The sliding glass door is sturdy, strong and very nice looking. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with every aspect of our interaction with Polar Seal. This company has been in business for over 50 years for good reason. In the next 2 years we're facing the replacement of our living room windows. These windows create the whole wall, plus windows on either end of that wall. So we're talking 10 feet high by 16 feet wide, plus the two side windows. It will not be easy or cheap, but it will be done perfectly, and Polar Seal is who we're calling first. I would strongly encourage everyone to take a good hard look at this company if you're looking at window or sliding glass door replacement. I'm thoroughly pleased with the product, the price, the amazing construction and the professional installation."

"Matt made an hour trip to look at three old windows I knew would be an issue come winter. He was super informative and helpful and I’ve arranged for all three to be replaced by fall. I’m anxious to see them and experience the high quality and efficiency myself!! The installers have already arranged to come create the materials list so they can insure the best quality install and I was impressed by that as well. Thank you! I’ll follow up with pics when they are installed :)"

"I was very satisfied with the windows. I was told it would be 5 weeks before it could be done but there was a last minute cancellation and it was done the day after I signed the contract. After the installation was done, they made sure everything was cleaned up and actually left my house in better condition than when they started."

"I called Moore & Sons to have a quote done on a complete roof replacement on our house including a new skylight replacement. We had 3 different contractors come to do quotes and Moore & Sons were the best. Tony was our Sales Representative and he was nothing short of informative, professional and his communication was so very appreciated. I knew nothing about roofing as this is our first house and after our first consultation, I felt that we were in good hands and I knew more about what we were going to need to do. They just finished the roof yesterday and already the house looks a lot better. The crew and foreman who were onsite were very nice and they did a great job cleaning up after themselves every day. Thank you Tony for your help in getting this project done - I will highly recommend you!"

"We had several windows and a sliding door replaced. The installation was done on schedule and Montana and his crew was nothing but professional. They put down tarps over the carpet and got to work right away. They got it all done in one day and that couldn't have been easy. The windows were all done on the second story, over shrubs and on uneven ground. Montana's work was meticulous and the windows were gorgeous. We couldn't be happier with the results. We would definately recommend Weathergard windows and will request Montana's team for installation when we replace the remaining windows. Thanks Montana and thanks Weathergard!"

FAQs for new windows service projects in Comstock Park, MI

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
