"My post is intended to warn the community about a serious issue we had with a local plumber, Randy Mask Plumbing. I hope this review will make you reconsider ever hiring them in the future. In July 2021, we moved our washer from a closet indoors to our garage. The plumber came and physically moved the washer from inside our home to the garage. He installed the new box in the garage and capped the old water lines in the hallway closet. Fast forward to February 2024 and our house has a very unsettling smell – as if someone pooped and didn’t flush the toilet for hours. I reached out to Mike Mask since he was our go-to plumber for over 10 years. He told me 8 times out of ten it is not a sewer/septic issue. Based on this it made more sense to seek alternative remedies – we had the A/C company come out on multiple occasions to video the air ducts, clean the air ducts, and clean the entire system. They could not find any issue with our AC system. Then we had a rodent company come out in search of a dead animal – nothing. We had to go back to the possibility of it being related to plumbing. Randy Mask Plumbing was supposed to complete a smoke test on May 10th but after not showing during their original promised window and then second promised window we cancelled the appointment. We then had Superior Plumbing come the following Tuesday to do the smoke test. They found that when Randy Mask Plumbing moved the washer to the garage, they failed to cap the drain. Over the course of 3 years, the drain sat uncapped and eventually the p-trad dried up and allowed sewage gases to run through our home. This has impacted our health in so many ways - we have been sick multiple times with respiratory infections. I left a voicemail for Mike Mask letting him know what Superior Plumbing found during the smoke test. When he called me back, he said none of his work orders showed them moving the washer to the garage – only creating the new box in the garage. The work orders that he was referring to were written by the same plumber who stole our garage disposal during our kitchen remodel, damaged our dishwasher, and stole our drill charger (all in one trip to our house!). The plumber returned the stolen garage disposal and Randy Mask Plumbing refunded us for the drill charger (after finding it in the plumber’s truck). We eventually had to repair the dishwasher on our own. I would not trust the work order of a plumber who is stealing from customers’ homes; but Mike Mask does – because it gets him out of compensating us for the over $1200 in money we put out trying to solve this. We also requested reimbursement for the original job they failed to do correctly, the cost the drywall repairs, and compensation for having to live in a home that reeked of sewer gas due to his incompetent plumber. It is the responsibility of Randy Mask Plumbing to provide services that are up to code and meet health and safety standards of your industry. We are not plumbers. The onus is not on the customer to ensure services provided meet basic industry standards. We should not need to request to have drain lines capped. By not doing so, your company put my family's health at risk, cost us money we can ill afford to spend, and caused a great deal of embarrassment when having friends and family over. We tried to remedy this with the company and not stoop to this level but after multiple unreturned phone calls from Mike Mask we have no other recourse but to warn the community of Randy Mask Plumbing."

"Was having a problem finding a plumbing company to come for this relatively small job. Including Angie's recommended companies. This company was great. Easy to schedule, gave me a ball park over the phone. Plumber was talented and easy to work with. He did exactly what I asked for, even called ahead to make sure he had the parts. Highly recommend and will use again."

FAQs for gas piping projects in Cortez, FL

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
