"After months of agonizing research and consultations with 4 different sized window companies, we recently chose Steve and Zen Windows Twin Cities to replace the majority (10) of the windows in our home. Not only are we extremely happy with the quality of the window products (Soft-Lite vinyl casements and sliders), but we had a great experience with the consultation, measurement and installation process. Steve proved to be very knowledgable and a great resource in helping us make our window choices, without the pressured pitch or manipulation that we'd felt with other sales reps. Frankly, the experience was like having a "friend in the business" over to talk shop over a beer. We very much appreciated the up front and direct communication without having to navigate through layers of reps and project managers that often comes with a large national company. To that end, we felt like we got a great value for our money knowing that Zen's prices were not bloated to cover the overhead and marketing of these larger vendors. Finally, we felt very confident in the lifetime guarantee of the products and installation service we purchased, knowing that any issues down the road would be addressed without charges or service fees. While Steve is a local small business owner, Zen is a national franchise who would honor these guarantees should Steve retire or close his local shop. Almost six months in, we are very happy with our windows and even happier with our overall experience with Zen. We would highly recommend them! In fact, our neighbors just signed a large window project with Steve recently based on our positive experience and recommendation."

"My experience with Scherer Window & Door Consultants has gone so well that I have worked with them for consecutive years to replace the 30 year old windows and doors throughout my house. Sales consultation is knowledgeable and insightful, running several quotes and configurations to find the right balance of price, style and window fabrication, even identifying, proactively, that I would likely need wall repair during installation due to rot. The wall was repaired without surprises or installation interruption. Installation scheduling runs smoothly and predictably between Scherer staff and skilled installation partners. Finishing/painting referrals are vetted and qualified. The customer service I've received before, during and after installation insures an excellent experience. I will buy and install with Scherer Window & Door Consultants in the years to come! I trust their expertise, and they have earned my business."

"I'll update again when the work is done, but everything up until now (just signed the contract) has been great. Our sales rep, Jim, was more knowledgeable about the whole scope of the project than anybody else we had out to bid. He is obviously a carpenter, and he says everybody on their team of installers is as well. Most of the windows are casement, there is one bay window, and a 2-story single pane of glass ($6,000 on it's own). The whole project was bid at $30,114.00, and I'll update when the final price comes in. They will install Marvin Integrity windows which seem like great windows. They were the lowest bid and the highest quality windows, and seem to be better craftsmen. No-brainer."

"The installation went good and quite fast, but there was an issue with pricing. When I called to request the service, I specifically asked for all charges so I was prepared for the cost. However, when they came out to do the repair, they charged an additional $35 since I was on the 2nd floor of a three-floor condominium (Highrise/commercial charge) - I was prepared for the other charges. I was not specifically told about this and questioned why and they said they probably did not know it was a condo; however, the work order specifically stated "Unit 260". I voiced my disapproval of this charge, but I was basically ignored. No return call or discussion from management."

"Just recently had a 48in x 48in egress window installed in our basement. The 2 gentlemen, Caleb & Graham were nothing short of awesome. I'm a retired carpenter and I can say their craftsmanship was second to none. Clean, precise. I was enjoying the perfect gape in our foundation and the framework even before they installed the window, because it was being done properly. Heck, even the hole they dug for the well was precise. Both Caleb & Graham were very friendly, communicative and courteous. Would use again and highly recommend."

"Windows were installed perfectly, even in our old home. The inserts don't even look like inserts and we were able to keep all our old trim work for the windows we wanted them for."

"The window washing went well. The crew was quick, clean and the windows were excellently cleaned. The screen replacement did not go well which prompted the company to send someone to repair the screen which was not installed correctly."

FAQs for new windows service projects in Cottage Grove, MN

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
