"Most of their work is excellent, but there are problems, and they are overpriced, to the extent of price-gouging. They installed a sprinkler system at our home 10 years ago, and for the most part it went well, but they wired the system in to the light fixture in the garage, which of course meant that when we turned the garage light off, the system shut down. They came out and fixed the problem, but tried to charge us extra for it (a lot!), even though it was their own dumb error. We have had an annual service contract with them since then ($495 to turn it on in the spring and shut down in the fall). When the controller failed a few years ago, we received a very hefty bill ($400.00) for replacing it. The last straw came when I attempted to have the rain sensor replaced last August. The sensor failed years ago, and the service man kept saying that it would be replaced under warranty, but he never did; he finally said that the front office kept deleting the repair order. Finally the front office said they would replace it, and it would cost $230. I bought the identical rain sensor online for $61, put it in myself in 5 minutes, and it works perfectly now. I have now contracted with a different company (one that got all A's on Angie's List) to do start-up and shut-down at less than half of Sharkey's price."

"<p>The booking was easy and the tech was on time. He did what I was expecting, to open the system up. However, while a number of the heads were not turning and would need to replaced, he provided me and my wife with an estimate for $700 to replace 7 total heads!! He said, because we have well water, they'd recommend using heads that include steel, so they are $65 each, plus he added $15 to "lower" the heads based on newer standards with sprinklers. This was way more than I wanted to spend and also $400+ more than an estimate I then received from another company to do the same work using sprinklers of the same quality but not replacing all 7, instead replacing just 4. The cost per sprinkler head was more in the $35-$40 range. </p> <p>I'm sure Royal irrigation knows what they are doing as far as sprinklers, and I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the second estimate has me thinking that they are overpriced. "The crew did a great job. Removed asphalt and old steps. Graded the area and installed the pavers and build new steps. It took a little less than 3 days to do the work. The crew was willing to answer questions as the project progressed and left things very clean. The new pavers look great and are flush with the driveway and house."
