"04/07/2015 The installation of the backup sump pump follows the work Basement Pros performed for me in May, 2014.(Angies List review on-line). The job was to install a french drain and sump pump in the basement. As my review of 14 May, 2014 indicates, I was 100% satisfied with the contractor and the work performed. I contracted Basement Pros again, this time to install a Zoeller Battery Backup Sump Pump System. Again, I was happy to deal with Karen in the office, and Donny on the installation. Donny showed up like clockwork Saturday morning. He had the system installed exactly in the length of time Karen had said it would take him. I threw them a curve ball by asking to have the discharge line from the pump/well in the basement redirected from it's original placement outside. There was no problem, or charge, with the request. However, as with just about everything else that is done around here, it ended up being more work than I had hoped. Donny then took his time, thought it through, and did a top-notch job! Once again, at No additional charge. Basement Pros is a First Class firm. They are well priced, very friendly, and provide great service. If anyone reading this is in the market for this type work on their home, look no further. I am completely confident in recommending Basement Pros, in all aspects. Peace! "We had a lot of parts to juggle with our project, but Larry really helped make our vision a reality. He provided a lot of great suggestions for things that we needed help on (railing, steps, fireplace, ceiling lights, cabinets), and steered us away from products that he has had trouble with in the past. He framed a gas fireplace (others installed), tiled and created hearth and mantle for the fireplace, custom-made beautiful cabinets, constructed a new loft railing, created new wood steps that had a turn to them, and laid new vinyl plank flooring. His craftsmanship is really nice, with great attention to detail; he added some features to the cabinets that really made them very classy. We love our new cozy rooms! He was not the cheapest contractor that we got a quote from, but I feel that he was worth it and would highly recommend him."

"We were very happy with the finished product. Renzo was always professional, friendly, trustworthy and reliable. The kitchen and living room turned out exactly as we had imagined (and was finished way sooner that we had thought too!) Any problems or bumps in the road, Renzo was there with a quick and easy solution. Renzo was also very accommodating to the fact that we were living in the house (with a dog too) during the renovations. He always left the house clean at the end of each day."

"The original work order just called for installing new bathroom cabinets and vinyl flooring. We ended up recessing a wall and adding tile to the wall over the vanity. I was very pleased with his professionalism. He explained everything as he went along and brought to my attention any problems and we discussed the best way to handle it. I am having more work done and he will be the one doing it. I purchased the materials so the $1700.00 was his and his assistant's labor."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Deal-island, MD

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
