"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

Customers say: Quick response

"After my basement test come back with significantly elevated radon, I contacted radon abatement services at the recommendation of a neighbor. A day and a half later, they were on site. While performing the initial walk through, the experienced and thoughtful professionals adapted their plan to utilize my sump pump. This was an effective strategy as it addressed the main source of radon and concealed the system in completely unfinished space. I just received my post mitigation radon results, and the system is working phenomenally. To sum it up, I was blown away by the responsiveness, thoughtfulness, and reasonableness and can't say enough positive things about this company. I don't ever post reviews, but in this circumstance I absolutely had to."

"Mark did great work and made the radon abatement system blend well with the house. The office response time was slower than I would have liked, but the price and quality of work was worth the wait. All of the people I interfaced with were extremely helpful and nice. I would highly recommend this company."

"Bought a service call coupon - and called to schedule the appointment. Was notified by Sam that the company does not fix leaks - they only dry them. A little misleading from the description as it does not seem they are a FULL service company."

"We've used their plumbing, and they're very expensive.? They get the job done, but they're very expensive.? The work was done at my husband's mother's house that he was putting on the market. They're good. They do the work, but they're just so expensive.? They're pretty good about time. Somebody calls you if they're running late.? I will use them again, because I have a contract with them.? They get the job done, but they're just outrageously expensive."

"I've used Floodbusters twice in the last two years. The first time they came out and sealed a crack in my utility room to exposed concrete. The job was solid, but the sealant they used looked a bit sloppy. I called and the same week they came out and painted over it. Now it looks good! This was in 2019. This past February 2020 I had them come out again, this time they had to remove drywall to access where the crack was. Two different men came out then the first time. They did a pretty good job. All I need now is for my drywall to be replaced and another successful job will have been done and in the books. I really appreciate this company and highly recommend!"

"Good job working in awkward space with little room to work around radon removal system outlet pipe.
The downside: Area clean up was slightly below average and drywall material was left in splotches on wall (perhaps hard to see because of similar color) and also left few small splotches on floor (not hard to see).
Frankly most contractors do a poor job of protecting your belongings and cleaning up and I should have bird-dogged them more.
Also area of drywall tape near baseboards under window was not covered sufficiently and I had to get them to improve coverage before they left.
The job they did around the pipe was a B but overall, have to give them a C or C+ for quality because of visible tape and splatter issues.
But both men were very nice and polite as was the owner or manager with whom I made the appointment.

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Dowell, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
