"Our journey with Spartan Contracting began in the early summer of 2019. We had just fired another contractor in the middle of a bathroom remodel which had turned into an unqualified disaster. The project was putting a second bathroom in the basement of our 65 year old house, and remodeling the existing upstairs bathroom. The contractor we had hired on the basis of a friend's recommendation had just stopped showing up with the job half done. As we should have done to begin with, we interviewed three contractors and went with Spartan. I wish we had found them first! Levi (owner) and Mark (foreman) went over the existing and projected work in detail, gave us a thorough estimate, and an honest assessment of what needed to be done. Mistakes had been made by the previous contractor and subcontractors, which had to be rectified. As well, the previous contractor had not obtained the appropriate permits for the extensive job, which could have become a serious issue when it came to selling the house in future. Everything that needed to be done was explained in detail at each step. Spartan was definitely challenged by the fact that the house is 65 years old. As work progressed, not unexpectedly, issues turned up which had to be addressed to bring electricity and plumbing up to code, to reinforce aged infrastructure, to correct haphazardly done "upgrades" by the previous homeowners(s), as well as the mistakes made by the previous contractor. At each step of the way, they explained what needed to be done and why. We wanted everything to be done correctly, to code, and in a quality fashion. This is what we got. The downstairs bathroom had been a particular challenge due to very old plumbing, and dealing with a lift station to the septic system. Each challenge was met and solved. Excellent plumbing and electrical subcontractors were brought in. Both bathrooms turned out beautifully. We were so pleased that we decided to go ahead with a kitchen remodel, as well as adding an arctic entryway and replacing poorly built deck and fence. Levi and Mark worked with us to design a kitchen that would fit into a somewhat challenging space. Again, as the project proceeded, necessary improvements and upgrades had to be made. Work proceeded through the winter with its cold weather challenges. And then..... the pandemic. Spartan was hampered by supply chain standstill for months, and the general systemic issues we all death with starting March 2000. They did what they could, when they could, but the project stretched far longer than any of us anticipated. Our project finally finished this summer. The results are beautiful. We went from having one old and kind of disgusting bathroom, and a dysfunctional kitchen, to two beautiful bathrooms, a kitchen we love to cook in, and a much appreciated arctic entry. I can't say enough about Spartan's quality work, professionalism, attention to detail, and working by the book as far as codes, inspections, and permits. As well, Levi and Mark had to accomodate the choices and demands of two opinionated women (me and my daughter) on what we wanted. Spartan went above and beyond in so many ways, often working 7 days a week, and did extra things like bringing space heaters over when our furnace died, and helping keep our chickens warm in winter. There are many more projects we could embark on for our old house, and we will certainly have Spartan move forward when we are ready. After working on our old house for three years, I like to think they have a bit of affection for it! Thanks to Levi, Mark, Wendy, and all their excellent assistants and subcontractors."

"We were very please with the deck replacement job Ryan and his crew completed. Ryan always got back to us in a timely manner. HIs crew was on time each day, we did not hear a litany of four letter words as we have experienced with other contractors, and they always cleaned up. We would highly recommend this company. We were happy we found them through Home Advisors as we did not know where to begin. 84th Street did and excellent job."

"Work of Art Drywall was a fantastic choice for our remodel project. Our home, a 1941 gem, needed a complete overhaul. John was a pleasure to work with and was able to break down the project into manageable phases. A remodel such as this can be somewhat overwhelming. He made the process manageable and we are now living in an amazing space!"

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Eagle-river, AK

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
