"Radon Abatement services is a reliable dependable superb company. I have had an excellent experience from start to finish. Scheduling was easy and expeditious, service was professionally and very well done. Most importantly, Radon is gone with its in-house level reduced to almost its outside level. John Swett was very helpful and kindly answered all my emails and quickly addressed every concern I had. This project could not have been done better."

"Steve was easy to work with and they did an outstanding job installing the Radon Remediation system. Quick response with outstanding service. I highly recommend them. Radon levels were 4.6 before the install and .5 after the install."

"Could not have been any better. The office was responsive on initial contact, promptly scheduled, Came out and gave a detailed estimate and discussed their plan with real project photos. Very thoughtful on Options and strategy where to run the piping in a 29 year old house with not easy access for piping run. Detailed info on radon provided. They also replaced and sealed the sump pump which the two other estimates did not even consider. The crew communicated in advance on job start time. Mike and Clayton arrived right on time and were extremely professional and considerate, COVID-19 precautions with masks at all times, and they were done in about 3 hours; (much faster than others which said 1.5 days!) Cleaned up thoroughly vacuum etc. and went over system with me in detail. Their truck was well maintained, orderly with every tool and pipe connector possible. I got three estimates on this job. They GMD were not the cheapest of the three but the ~10 percent premium was worth it and included sump pump replacement and independent inspector testing follow up. Others bidders were cheaper and or did not account for follow up testing and/or did not give me confidence In their solution or capability to choose the best solution not the easiest one or cut a hole in my roof! I don’t write up many reviews but this was an experience worth sharing. Highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed."

"Overall I was very satisfied with Bob's performance.  He was very thorough and appeared to be interested in doing  a  good job. My wife and I are first time buyers and Bob was very willing to take a little extra time on the phone to walk me through the process. Also, he did a little extra research on the property and permits before even showing up to perform the inspection. <br /> On site (on time) for both inspections he was very professional and quite willing to allow me to follow around and ask questions as the inspection went on.  On the first property he spotted some faulty structural repairs that tipped me off to get a contractor in before making any decisions and ultimately back out of a house. <br />  His pricing may be a little high compared to other inspectors, but given the amount of amount of knowledge and thoroughnesshe brought to the table I would still call it good value. <br />"

"It went very well. I HIGHLY recommend Home Detective. You can tell from the first phone contact with Robert that he knows what is doing. <br /> He was very professional on the phone and during the inspection. <br /> <br /> Robert thoroughly inspected every corner of the house and found areas of concern including gas leak, running toilet, water damage in the kitchen and much more which can be easily overlooked  <br /> <br /> More importantly, he showed me how save a lot of money on utilities bills (electric and water) and  took the time to explain every aspect of the findings. Frankly, this inspection was like a training session for me. Robert is knowledgeable and passionate about what it does. <br /> <br /> I will do business again with Robert and Highly recommend him to every one."

"I contacted Mitchell Home Inspections due to a positive referral from a friend. The inspector (Cliff) arrived early and was very knowledgeable and polite. He did a really thorough inspection and the report was well written with many pictures, notes, and findings. One of the most important things he did was to inform me that he observed radon mitigation systems on the surrounding homes. Based on this, I requested that he perform the radon test and we discovered that our home had a very high radon level. If he did not mention that, my family would be putting ourselves at risk for lung cancer (due to radon) without even knowing it. Now we have the mitigation system in place so we can sleep well and safe. THANK YOU CLIFF!!"

"From start to finish I was very pleased with THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OF AMERICA.  I contacted Carol at their office who was very nice and was able to schedule my inspection during the first call.  She was able to give me a time, date and a cost of the inspection and radon test while I was on the phone.  She followed up with an email to confirm details.  Days before the inspection Carol emailed again to confirm the appointment.  I am very pleased with my interactions with the office staff.   <br /> <br /> The home inspection went very well.  Charlie was prompt and polite.  He is very detailed.  We discussed the process before we started. He told us a number of great resources, even telling us we can contact him when ever we have any questions in the future.   <br /> The inspection was very through.  We walked the perimeter of the house.  Charlie pointed out possible problems in and outside of the house.  Addressed a number of concerns he saw.  He was very meticulous.  He climbed in to the attic, and a very tiny crawl space to inspect as much of the house as he could.  The whole inspection took about 4 hours.   <br /> During the inspection Charlie answered all of our questions and even gave us a number of tips and ideas for making improvements to our future home.   <br /> The inspection report was delivered within 24 hours.  It was very detailed, and helped us negotiate a number of issued with the homeowners.   <br /> I would hire Charlie and THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OF AMERICA any day.   <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Sykesville, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
