"Fernando was very accommodating when scheduling both the initial meeting to provide an estimate and to work on the job. He arrived promptly both times and his quote was on target and did not deviate after the job was completed. The area of the basement wasn't completely cleared for him to start work when he and his son arrived, but he even helped to move things. Both of them kept things neat and clean, which made it easy for them to clear out quicker with no mess for us to pick up after. I'm picky about installation and didn't want the utility side of the house to look like an industrial area, so Fernando was able to install the exhaust up to the roof alongside the downspout. He also answered any questions on his the written proposal and his price was as stated for the work that was needed for my particular job. We needed 2 locations in the basement floor where they had to install PVC pipe to draw out the radon to a single fan attached to the outside of the house, that exhausted up to the roof. Really clean install. Also got another test kit from him, so that we can test for basement radon levels within the next 2 weeks to see if levels have been reduced to below the maximum allowed. Fernando said he will come back should we need any adjustments and advised us to remember to call him for annual service. His company is listed by the CT Dept of Health as one of the few qualified radon mitigation professionals as of July 21, 2016 - there's only a total of 6 qualified in Fairfield County, so that's definitely a positive sign that we selected the right guy for our job."

"Dave was amazing. He was able to be at our home that week as it was time sensitive. He showed up early to get a head start on the outside and roof. He spent SIX hours with us. He inspected each room and every detail... taking pictures and notes as he went. He was even OK with us asking questions throughout the process and was happy to share his knowledge with us. He went as far to look at things 3 or 4 times until he found out why it wasn't working (i.e. electrical). We loved working with Dave and would recommend him to anyone and everyone."

"I had a problem with the water pressure fluctuating. Come to find out, it was the holding tank. The professionals at Waterdrct came out (Dennis) promptly and found the tank was old and waterbound. They were like lightening (in a good way) and had the tank replaced in like 30 mins. These guys are GOOD !!! The water pressure was more than I thought the well could produce. Excellent job and very informative. They are true professionals !! I highly recommend them."

"I called Home Quest and spoke with Kristen. She was friendly and helpful and we were able to get an appointment for the next day. John was our home inspector and he was very personable and friendly, making us very at ease during the inspection process. He arrived early and had already started inspecting the exterior of the home. He was very informative and described each area of the home as he inspected it. He brought separate inspectors for heating and pests which I thought was great to have specialists inspect those areas. Each of those specialists were equally knowledgable and made sure we understood their findings in the home. The report was very thorough with photos and assessments. The pricing is very competitive and a fair value. A great job all around by John and his team! <br />"

"Really well. Chris knows how to think about the problem, explain the solution and accomplish it. When something he suggested needed more work, he figured out a way to tackle the problem from a different direction. Difficult job since the basement housed the well and radon was seeping up from underneath the floor, and there were 2 sump pumps and a french trench on the outside edges. Basically water everywhere which carried the radon in the air. Excellent job, efficient."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Fairfield, CT

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
