"When Paul met with me the first time, he spent about 2 hours going over our options for a dog run. He had a lot of good ideas and recommendations for the safety of our dog. The natural stone was a perfect recommendation, and it turned out great. Our dog loves it and doesn’t get his paws muddy like before. Paul’s team arrived on time, were professional and a pleasure to work with. They did a great job removing our bush, removing some grass to put down the natural stones. They cleaned up everything after they were done on both days. We are glad we hired them and would use them again in the future if needed. We recommend OCR, Inc. Luisa and Eric R"

"I had a great experience with Active Home Savers for their lawn mowing, maintenance, weed whacking, edging, and cleanup services. They transformed my yard into a beautiful, well-maintained space that Iâ m proud of.   They didnâ t leave a single leaf or twig behind after the cleanup, which I greatly appreciated. The team was courteous, efficient, and communicated clearly throughout the process. Active Home Savers exceeded my expectations and I will definitely use them again."

"I was prepared for an excellent experience based on these Angie's List reviews, but unfortunately was disappointed. The actual work performed was good and appears correctly done. Taylor is personable and knowledgeable, and the crew members I interacted with were nice, but I'm not happy that three days after the time promised (and two unanswered phone messages), there is still a ladder, large containers of sealant, various small tools, and a bag of garbage sitting on our lawn. These were left when they finished the job Friday; we knew the patio sealant needed 24 hours to dry, so Taylor asked if they could pick it up Saturday. Fine -- but Saturday came and went, and a call I made Sunday wasn't returned. My husband and I ended up moving all the patio furniture, grill, plants, etc back to the patio ourselves; we should not have had to do this. I'm glad now that we did, otherwise it would all still be piled up on the lawn.
The job cost was in line with what I expected. I was bothered, however, that after paying a deposit, with the balance due upon completion, Taylor asked for payment in full just days later, before the job was finished. I expect that as a small business, cash flow and employee paychecks can be tricky to balance, but it didn't sit well with me. My husband agreed to it, though, and Taylor showed up first thing Friday morning to get it. He and the crew didn't come back to start work until after 11 am that day; I was told there had been an emergency on another job.
I say that I would work with the company again, because I do think the work was of good quality and the price was fair. But I would do so knowing that I'd have to be more 'demanding' and right on top of things. I'm pleased to see a younger generation passionate about an important trade that requires both knowledge and craftsmanship, but the company's customer service and responsiveness wasn't up to par on this job.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Farmington Hills, MI

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
