"John did an amazing job putting together our vision and assembling the team to complete or kitchen and master bath renovation. This is the 3rd project we have worked with him and we keep coming back due to his great craftsmanship, knowledge, attention to detail and amazing communication. This last part was especially important as our project started during the pandemic. John worked around delays in supply chains to help us achieve our goals without compromising on finishes nor blowing up our budget. He helped troubleshoot several issues that arose as with any remodel. Kim, his wife, is also a great resource and was always communicating with us regarding the schedule and timing of work which is so key. If you are thinking of any type of remodel or work around your home, Lancaster Home Remodeling is the first and only call you should make."

"Mostly well.  We purchased the Big Deal for 2 painters for a day which said it would be 2 painters for 9 hours for a total of 18 hours.  They showed up with 3 painters and said their day would end earlier since they would hit their 18 hours sooner with 3 people.  I do wish we had known that in advance, but it worked out.  They told at the beginning that the oil based primer wouldn't have time to dry because it needs to dry for 24 hours, so we had to go back to get latex primer while they prepped.  That was disappointing because everything I read was that the soot should really be covered with oil based primer so that it didn't bleed through.  I wish they had told me that when we were exchanging emails about the job, but maybe I should have known that already.  We had to have the job done that day though, so rescheduling wasn't really an option.  When my husband returned to the store to get latex paint, they asked him to pick up a pack of rollers also. <br /> They did a quality job, painting the ceiling which was probably difficult since the family room had two levels, with part of the room having very high ceilings with skylights, and another part of the ceiling was over a staircase to the basement.  Since we had purchased a deal that was for a specific time frame, they covered a lot with their time, and my husband was set to complete what they didn't get to.  We were happy they were able to prime and paint the entire family room for the most part, and able to prime the bathroom as well.   <br /> They were flexible and worked with us with what to do.  We needed to paint the family room and bathroom and kitchen.  We only wanted to pay for the one day and my husband was prepared to finish whatever was left over himself.  We were hoping they would finish the family room at least.  At some point my husband saw how much time was left, and decided he would rather have them prime the bathroom instead of cutting in along the floor in the family room with the paint (since my husband would rather finish the paint than deal with priming the bathroom himself).  They didn't have a problem with that. <br /> The rooms turned out very well.  Would use them again in the future. <br />"

"Crystal gutted a 550 sqft full floor of a brownstone and installed a new master bath, closets, and roof deck access. Complete paint, floor restoration, lighting, etc as well. Pedro is highly responsive and cares very much that the project meets the client's expectations. His team is professional and courteous. They showed up regularly and were highly responsive to any request. Perhaps most importantly for doing work on old buildings in the city, Pedro knows that the unexpected can come up and works with the client to address the issue. In our case, removing the ceiling revealed highly stressed joists from a roof house, roof deck, and poorly constructed stairwell framing. Pedro worked with the inspector to find the right solution and installed LVLs and new brickwork to fix the issue. His cost for additional work was very fair, and I've had situations before where a contractor would use that situation as leverage for a hefty premium on the work. Pedro and his team can tackle a wide range of projects. You might want to engage sub-contractor specialists for very precise work. Pedro and his team are a great resource for renovations big and small."

"When we started our plan of remodeling, the first thing we did was the complete roof replacement including kitchen vent & duct pipe installation to the roof, and new installation of attic ventilation. MMP did not only completed it just as agreed but also very efficiently. The crews were friendly, professional, and careful. The jobs were carefully managed and implemented effectively. I was impressed by Matt, who is the manager, and he does an outstanding job in managing the crews and the progress of the situation, and the communication was clear and always to the point. We then moved to initiate a search for a contractor of two bathrooms remodeling after completing the roof and attic vent, MMP was one of the many candidates. Matt has had not only the best idea and proposals but also shown an impressive & professional sense of evaluating the project accurately, including the possible structural modification as well as a competitive estimate of the cost of the build. His proposal included a rebuild of a wall of the bathroom to expand another one adjacent to it. Matt accepted to use my schematic design image (made with a software tool) and a spreadsheet list of the fixtures that I created - as many as fifty items including TOTO, Grohe, American Standard, Panasonic, and IKEA - to start the job (later changed some of them due to local plumbing code compliance) After beginning the bathroom remodel project, Matt shared what jobs will be done with us timely and efficiently via text so that we feel comfortable enough in knowing what is going on while living in the house of dust & noise from remodeling. The crews, Zen and Mark, were very courteous, extensively experienced, reliable, and friendly with excellent communication, sometimes with songs of 80s rock music. They ask me when more precise specifications are needed and notified me when they feel advance notifications are required. When a change is necessary due to inspection, they informed me and clarified what and why. I have never felt uncomfortable in living together with the remodel job which has lasted over four months. The completed two bathrooms were stunning, just as I imagined. Matt, Zen, and Mark have proved their strong & thoughtful expertise and lived up with my request patiently until completion. Great job. A home remodeling project cannot be successful without having a trusted partner, and my experience with MMP has led me to be glad to share my confidence that MMP has a credential to become your reliable partner to manage a construction project together."

"We hired Richard to finish our basement and it was a pleasure working with him and his team from start to finish. When we moved into our house, we immediately knew we wanted to finish our basement. To do this, we also knew that we had to deal with our old, not to code, basement stairs. When contractors came to give quotes, most told us that the stairs would be an issue, and one contractor even told us it was impossible (and that it wasn’t worth finishing the basement). Richard not only provided us with a solution for moving the stairs, but he also spent his own time meeting with the town building inspector to go over his proposed plans before giving us a full quote and signing a contract with us. This kind of forward thinking helped us to feel comfortable hiring him to complete the work. It is also worth noting that even though Richard was the only contractor whose quote included moving the stairs, it was very competitive being neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Throughout the basement remodel, Richard and his team were very communicative and quick to respond to our questions, comments, or concerns. They listened to our ideas and always had great ideas for how to either make what we wanted happen or to propose improvements on what we were thinking about. In the end, Richard helped us to build the basement that we wanted, and today we have a beautiful basement, which includes a laundry room, a library space, and an open area for our kids to play. On top of all of this, we also have a new stairway and a new kitchen pantry where the old stairs were. The new stairs fit in seamlessly, almost like they’ve always been that way. We would gladly work with him again on a future project, and would definitely recommend him to others considering similar projects."

"I once joked to a friend in response to his 'since you are so happy with his work, I may hire him too', I told him, 'you don't choose Vinnie, Vinnie chooses you! Vinnie does the work as if it is his own project. Completely focused, attentive to the details. I liked most of this wor ethic. His quote was one of the most competitive. We interviewed about six different builders all with good ratings from friends or Angie's list. People he works with, electrician, plumber, HVAC were all very professional. Timely. Vinnie came up with this kitchen breakfast bar/island concept. He built it without much of an additional charge to the original quote. Gave us the address from where we could buy a quartz top. That breakfast bar became the central piece of the basement. There was a plain big wall on one side of the basement. Vinne came up with a cost-effective way to turn it into a brick-looking wall perfectly matching brick tiles in the kitchen. He put the kitchen brick tiles in one afternoon, without asking extra on top of the quote. Vinnie guided how best to get custom kitchen cabinets suitable for a basement. He installed the cabinets himself. He had put the crown of the cabinet twice to match two pieces of the crown in color, he did not ask for extra. He helped us choose the best option for flooring for humidity and told us where to find the most cost-effective flooring. He only charged us for putting the flooring down. All this gave us confidence that what he is charging us reasonable, he was not charging us extra on top of the material cost to him since we were buying the material ourselves after making sure that the price/quality was suitable for the project."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Framingham, MA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
