"We considered 5 different contractors for an extensive project finishing our basement.  Wantz was one of the top two contractors we considered.  Pricing was fair and his vision matched our vision.  The biggest decision point for us was that we would have to wait 45-60 days to start and that would have impacted our plans to be finished by the 2013 Holiday season.  Otherwise, there was a good chance that we would have chosen Wantz.  Instead, we went with Brothers Services and have been very happy with the results. <br />"

"I am extremely pleased with the work done. Not only was it done quickly and at an affordable price but this provider went out of his way to help me make decisions and picked up materials to expedite the time frame. I have already hired this provider to install hardwood floors, paint, electrical, lighting, and install new exterior windows. I called other providers who didn't show up or were triple the cost. I'm so happy I found this provider. He has a great work ethic and is more reasonable than anyone I have called in the past. Thank you. <br />"

"We had a lot of parts to juggle with our project, but Larry really helped make our vision a reality. He provided a lot of great suggestions for things that we needed help on (railing, steps, fireplace, ceiling lights, cabinets), and steered us away from products that he has had trouble with in the past. He framed a gas fireplace (others installed), tiled and created hearth and mantle for the fireplace, custom-made beautiful cabinets, constructed a new loft railing, created new wood steps that had a turn to them, and laid new vinyl plank flooring. His craftsmanship is really nice, with great attention to detail; he added some features to the cabinets that really made them very classy. We love our new cozy rooms! He was not the cheapest contractor that we got a quote from, but I feel that he was worth it and would highly recommend him."

"The overall job went well. The house looks brand new, and I get lots of compliments from the neighbors. Although the overall job was good, I give the company a C for quality for several reasons; there are some electrical wires still hanging from the roof or laying on the lawn from the siding job, and after only 4 months my new driveway has a crack that needs to be addressed. I have had several encounters with both Brian and Mike regarding the jobs performed at my home, they have both been responsive, but my encounter with Mike today really demonstrated excellent customer service skills and professionalism. Job well done Mike. Thank you."

"CS Construction did an outstanding job on my project. Samir Mammadov, the owner, is a true professional. He provided an accurate estimate on my kitchen remodel and laundry room tile floor installation. The kitchen was remodeled from top to bottom and came out beautifully, as did the laundry room floor. Sam is very personable and provided an accurate estimate at our first meeting and did a fine job guiding me through the whole project. He met with me at the wholesaler to pick out the kitchen cabinets and counter top. Sam and his crew were personable, on time, and did excellent detailed work. Sam really knows his craft in all aspects of the job. I am very pleased and recommend CS Construction very highly."

"<strong>Mr. Ken Zuromski with Garage Experts of MidAtlantic provided an exceptional job during our garage makeover, which turned it into a dream place.  <br /> <br /> The complete makeover, which included the installation of epoxy flooring and masonry stem wall, slatwalls and heavy duty accessories, an overhead storage rack, and white storage cabinets, was completed with an impressive attention to detail, efficiency, accuracy, and exceptional high quality.  <br /> <br /> I also appreciate so much the commitment he showed during the process, which involved continued professional support, providing advice, meeting deadlines, and providing feedback. <br /> <br /> I look forward to working with him once more in our closets makeover.<br /> <br />  <br /> <br /> <br /> </strong>"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Girdletree, MD

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
