"Standard Water installed a full-perimeter drain tile system in my home. This work included the removal of an existing drain tile system (original system only covered a portion of the house’s perimeter) and the need to tunnel under an existing tiled shower stall as one complicated feature of the project. Standard Water provided excellent service in answering all of the questions that I had before the work started and as the work was in progress. The company was very diligent in keeping the house clean (removed debris through a basement window) and thoroughly cleaned up once they were completely done with the project. On the day of the installation, the foreman noticed that the previously planned location of the discharge pipe was to be located in an area where discharged water would have covered the main walkway that leads to the front door. The foreman made a recommendation to re-route the discharge pipe to another location, far from where people enter and exit the house. I was very impressed with this as the company was looking after my best interest in this regard even through the alternative location was not as easy for them to complete as sticking with the original plan for the discharge pipe. On the second day of the project, some damage occurred inside the house were materials were being loaded/removed through a basement window. Standard Water came out immediately to inspect the damage, took ownership of the problem and promptly resolved the issue to my full satisfaction. I would recommend Standard Water to anyone seeking the installation of a drain tile system. The professionalism of its people, the quality of its work and its materials are superior to anyone else in the market."

"I am very pleased with them.  They did a very good job.  The drain tiles work awesome.  We had pretty heavy torrential rain and there was no drop in my basement at all.  They did a great job.  They are very friendly.  They communicate exactly what they are going to do.  They explain why the system is different then and what other systems are available and they were accurate when they said that.  They are always available.  They were very responsive."

"The Overall I purchased a house with their tile work already completed. It seems to be successfully keeping my basement dry. The service technician I worked with was excellent, I expect to continue to have their services performed. In addition we attempted to work with them to do estimates on an egress window, tile removal, and full basement remodel. I don't plan on proceeding with additional projects with them. 1. They are consistently the highest cost option. 2. The two sales reps we have work with have been unsatisfactory at communication and converting our goals into a plan of actions. Their price could be justified if you (a) believe they have a superior product [which they might] and (b) they add considerable value in planning/service [which we haven't seen]. If they don't list "John X" as a reference on their promo info. I will happily share my experiences to help ensure you know what to expect. The good. 1. Their phone support in the office is excellent. Friendly people take my calls. 2. They installed a dry basement system in my house for the previous owner. It seems to work. 3. I have the perception they offer quality products that are well thought out to work in basement situations. 4. The service tech that came to our house (4/6/18) was excellent. 5. I think if I wanted just their line of products in their proprietary line they could do a job, but... The Bad. 1. ... if you want them to do anything outside of their wheelhouse they seem to stall and not know how to leverage sub contractors. We asked for comprehensive remodeling, but struggled a lot with leveraging other skilled labor. 2. The estimates we have received don't incorporate the goals and desires we feel that we expressed. My perception has been that they try to sell their main lines of products instead of trying to meet our goals. They will send you a packet of promo info... it will show you their main lines. 3. The time/effort it took to get the initial estimates seems to make it prohibitive to try to work with them to get to a place where we want to be. 3. Terrible follow-through at the sales rep level. We have had two people come to give estimates. The first in Feb 2017 (Chris G), who we never heard back from. Then again in Feb 2018 (Brian K) and it has involved "badgering" to get any sort of movement. 4. Price. Always the highest price when we had multiple estimates."

"We very much appreciated the services of Criterium-Schimnowski Engineers. Their engineer was knowledgeable, listened to our concerns and put us at ease. We had noticed an uneven floor in a basement bedroom and a small crack in the exterior cinderblock as well as some deterioration in cinderblocks at soil level at the rear of our house. We had 4 foundation repair companies give us free estimates: American Waterworks, Innovative Basement Authority, SafeBasements of Minnesota, Inc and DBS Residential Solutions, Inc. All recommended push pier installation but different numbers ranging from 4 to 10 piers with a lift procedure. This is not an inexpensive procedure. All said they had engineers at their companies who would review the plan and be sure it was appropriate but we felt there was a conflict of interest in favor of the company's assessment. We had our home insurance field adjuster come out and he felt that there were no serious problems that would require piers. We decided to hire an independent structural engineer to give us an unbiased opinion. We chose Criterium-Schimnowski based on online reviews; looked on the Better Business Bureau but found none. Additionally, the fact that this firm has several engineers on staff gave us more confidence than companies with just a single engineer because there is more wisdom with many heads than one. The engineer determined that our foundation was structurally sound and no piers were needed. He recommended the deteriorating masonry be repaired, foundation landscape grading be done and that masonry gaps consistent with settling be sealed and closed. With his assessment, we have peace of mind and will save considerable money, not needing pier installation, and will use those savings instead to have the masonry and landscape grading done. Thank you, Criterium-Schimnowki, for helping us sort through the free foundation repair company estimates to learn what repairs were truly needed."

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Glenwood City, WI

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
