"Ryan came out right on time. He is so friendly and competent. He fully inspected our very high chimney and came back with some excellent suggestions for how we could save our fireplace and continue to use it with wood or gas, in addition to fixing our leaking chimney. He had a bid to us very soon. We signed and he ordered the specialize cap. As soon as it came in, he scheduled our installation. It just happened to fall on the hottest day of the year. Our old chimney cap had been sealed and resealed many times, so it was hard to get off, but Ryan persevered with a cheerful attitude. Soon it was off and our beautiful new cap was installed. Then he finished repairing and resurfacing our fireplace. The work was immaculately done. When it was over, he informed me that he had reduce our bill below what he bid it because he did not have to spend as much time on our firebox as he had thought. When does this ever happen? What a guy. This is the best experience I have ever had with a contractor (and I am 62 and have owned about a dozen homes)."

"It went well, they put a cover over the top of the chimney incase of rain while the new pan/cap was being made. (it was a rainy period) As soon as weather permitted they came out and completed the job. I had the choice of galvanized or stainless steel. I picked stainless steel."

I did not accept their quote because I got a few other opinions on the house and apparently I have a broken footing on the back side of my house that has to be reinforced/repaired and the center of the house needs an extra support to support the beams, like placing in more pillions (jacks) to support the beams for the load of the house.  I did not use them because they missed some big areas and after watching the engineer come out at and survey the area why I was there, thee seemed more through than the one I got from them.  The other engineers measured my whole home to pinpoint the issues.  This company was professional just not what I was looking for.

Steve and his crew did a fantastic job!  When Steve arrived to provide the estimate, he was very detailed in the work he would perform. He also made some excellent suggestions that we had not considered.  After giving Steve the go-ahead, the work soon began and progressed smoothly. The final result exceeded our expectations. Our house looks new again, and we are extremely pleased with the quality work Steve provided, and with the competitive price.  We would not hesitate to hire Steve for additional work in the future!

I have a front porch with a concrete surface, brickwork around it, and brick steps. The concrete surface had a major crack, the brickwork had numerous cracks, and the brick steps had mortar deterioration. I found Manning Masonry Doctor on Angie's List and called Mr. Manning. I told Mr. Manning that I wanted the crack to be replaced with decorative bricks; the other repairs were to be made as normally would be. Mr. Manning discussed the project with me in detail and provided me with an estimate in a reasonable period of time.

The work took about three days. Mr. Manning was always willing to answer questions and explain what he was doing. He protected the house and plants near the work area. He took extra precautions to eliminate dust from entering the house.

About three weeks after the work was finished, a crack developed in some of the new mortar. I contacted Mr. Manning who arranged to return in a few days to replace the mortar. That repair held.

I found Mr. Manning to be very professional and true to his word. I recommend him and I will use his services again.

"I had to call several times to get anyone to come out.  I was rescheduled a few times.  I am not sure if I overpaid or not, but I don't like that you either pay $99 if they find nothing, or $250 to remove whatever you need.  Basically, its $99 for an estimate if you don't use their service.  Just seemed like came up with a number on the spot.  He did remove the bird and cover the vent hole.

The firm's president, Randy Alverson, arrived promptly, assessed our damp basement situation, and explained in great detail the various steps of the waterproofing process.  He answered all of my questions and was so professional and reassuring that I broke my usual rule of getting at least 3 proposals for any home project, and decided to hire Chamberlin-Washington immediately.  Of course, I had done my homework and read the firm's excellent reviews on numerous websites including Angle's List, which added to my confidence in my choice. 

The Chamberlin-Washington crew was terrific and worked so hard under very chilly and damp conditions. They first removed all of the plants/shrubs from our front borders, carefully wrapping the roots in order to preserve them.   An 8 + -foot trench then had to be dug along the front of our house, to the bottom of the foundation, in order to begin the waterproofing process.  They worked very carefully, addressing one half of the foundation at a time (including under our front porch, which was undisturbed). The crew realized that our home's exterior foundation was very rough and uneven, which meant that it wouldn't be a receptive surface for the waterproofing membrane.  Mr. Alverson came back to our house to explain the additional steps that were needed to smooth the foundation out before the waterproof membrane could be applied: grind down the rough foundation, install stainless steel wall ties, install wood forms and pour a 4" thick concrete layer to even up and consolidate the foundation.  He made sure that we understood what was going to happen, and explained that though this was an unusual step to have to take, they had done it before for with some older homes such as ours (built circa 1925).  This extra step of preparation added an additional 50% to the original fee, but it had to be done. Once the waterproofing layer was finally in place, they tested it by spraying water onto the foundation for an hour, with one person carefully monitoring the process inside our basement to make sure that no water was leaking through.

Ultimately, Chamberlin-Washington was able to thoroughly waterproof the front foundation of our home, and we have had no further water problems whatsoever.  We were extremely impressed with Mr. Alverson and his crew -- very professional, punctual and thorough.  I highly recommend this firm to anyone whose home needs similar waterproofing work.  I should also add that Chamberlin-Washington honored the 10% discount for Angie's List members -- a nice touch.
