"Deck had been installed too closely surrounding the swim spa and so removable side panels were too difficult to remove. Decking was removed and support structure trimmed back slightly, enabling access. Well done job."

"JT built Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for us back in 2018-2019. The job scope is super extensive: getting plan, permits, foundation, framing, windows/doors drywall, painting, flooring, kitchen, bathroom, heating, plumbing etc. The list went on. JT was very professional. He delivered amazing communication and kept us updated regarding the status of the projects with honesty and integrity. The price is very reasonable especially after we see the craftsmanship/quality he delivered. We rent our ADU as airbnb. We constantly get compliments from guests how beautiful it is. I strongly recommend JT to anyone who is looking for general contractor."

"We had a great experience with Neilson Construction. Our house had two natural gas fireplaces that needed to be replaced, as well as an entrance floor. For reasons that aren’t really pertinent here, we ended up not only replacing the fireplaces themselves, but remodeling the entire fireplace surrounds. Neilson was the general contractor on the project, coordinating with electricians, fireplace installers, and their own crew of carpenters and tilers. Everybody showed up on time, every time. The communication from Neilson’s home office was top-notch, they cleaned up every evening, and the quality of the work was outstanding. They also stuck to their bid. I’d hire Neilson again in a second!"

FAQs for garage building service projects in Government-camp, OR

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
