"Gibson White was recommended to me by the Noritz company as a certified installer. He provided a free onsite estimate. He then appeared to do research so that he would be fully prepared to do the work. He was very pleasant and professional to deal with. He had 2 men working with him who were also very pleasant. The job took longer than expected and cost much more money than expected because the gas pipes in the house had leaks and had to be changed. National Grid had to be called 3 times because of the gas pressure coordination, but the timing worked out well and the job got finished. It took 2 days to complete the work and Gibson was on the job for the full time. Considering that the gas pipes had to be replaced unexpectedly, the work went well and we now have hot water in the house. I would highly recommend hiring Gibson. I rated B for the price because I did not get an itemized bill with the breakdown of materials and labor. I received a list of what was done and a price for each thing. Considering the number of hours spent, the number of men on the job and the cost of the tankless hot water heater (listed on the website), I thought the price was very high. I do understand that there are other hidden costs involved, but I still felt the price was very high. I did not complain because I was satisfied with the work and the men were very pleasant and professional. I had extensive electrical work done in my house is Brooklyn and I got and itemized bill of materials and labor and I was very glad to pay the price because I understood what I was paying for."

"<p>I discovered the leak on the weekend and called first thing Monday morning. They asked if it was an emergency, I told them I had a second bathroom, so it wasn't an emergency. They came the first thing Tuesday morning. The plumber removed the bowl and replaced the wax ring at a cost of $150.00. A check showed it was still leaking. Thinking it might be something more serious he said he would come back the next day with another plumber who was more experienced with the older pipes I have in my house. They came back first thing the next morning and determined that the metal plate between the floor and the wax ring was not level. When I had the bathroom redone the plate was installed on a slant. They leveled the plate and reinstalled the wax ring for the original price of $150.00, no additional charges. I would hire them again without hesitation for any plumbing work.<br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"Heat went off again on Friday. <br /> Plumber came and fixed it for the 2nd time, only this time when he left I had no hot water. <br /> This has happened 2 other times with other plumbers so I knew what was wrong. <br /> They turn down the water heater thermostat so you don't get any hot water. I guess they think you will call them back so they can charge you for another house call. <br /> <br />"

"I paid $1100 to obtain a permit in the village and to install the piping. Teresa was terrific to deal with. They were extremely professional and extremely knowledgeable. I had many question as I had not dealt with propane before. They answered all my questions and what they did not know they got answers too, they responded to me in a timely fashion. I am pleased with the work and okay with the price."

"We lost hot water Saturday evening and noticed that the pressure relief valve was leaking water. We called multiple plumbers and Steven was the only one to call us back same day within a few minutes. He was gracious enough to squeeze us in as his next appointment. During the visit he explained our issues in friendly and comprehensive manner. He ended up changing the pressure relief valve and installing pressure reduction valve and accompanying chamber. He also fixed our outdoor leaking faucet in the same visit. The work had excellent craftsmanship and very fair price."

FAQs for gas piping projects in Greenport, NY

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
