"HomeSpec did a fantastic job!! The initial visit was to assess and quote the cost. Everything was explained in excellent detail, and a quotation was provided. Basically the basement floor was removed around the entire periphery of the basement using a jack hammer. They removed the concrete floor coming out about one foot from the wall. Then a trench was dug down about eight inches from the top of the foundation, or below the bottom of the concrete floor. The new drain pipe was installed with pea gravel stones around the entire basement foundation to my sump pump. The original drain pipes were left in and continue to drain. The new drain pipe is basically sitting just above it and enters my sump pit. A large section of my basement is finished, and they were able to do this work without a major tear up (depending on your perspective). Basically they removed about 18 inches of dry wall, removed the base plate, with the wall hanging freely from the upper floor joist. They were able to do all the work I described above leaving the wall hanging. After they finished, they reinstalled a new base plate, drywall, and filled in all the joints with joint compound. All I have to do is prime and paint it. A couple final notes. They added about 5 flush out points around the entire system. This allows me to 1) see inside the pipe and the water level, 2) easily snake out the drain pipe if needed, and/or flush it out with a hose. This is a really valuable feature. The workers were great... these guys worked there tails off. The main work consisted of a Team Leader, with a crew of 3 - 4 guys. Communication was very good.. I always knew what was going on. They arrived between 8:00 - 9:00 AM everyday, and worked until 7:00 PM... one night until 10:00PM. Adding the new drain system itself took 3 days, and another 2 days to do the finished area with dry wall. This could have been done in one day, but the joint compound needed to dry... so they're limited. I am so please with the job this company has done, and it's a lifetime warranty that's transferable if you sell the house. Based on what I see, I'm very confident the problem is fixed. We just had some heavy rain over the weekend, and not a drop of water anywhere. For anyone experiencing the water seepage I described above, you can feel confident with HomeSpec to do a quality job, and fix the problem. One last note... this is a messy job. They do take every precaution to limit the dust and dirt by laying down plastic on the stairway, walkways, and covering everything in the basement, but you need to realize dust is going to be in the air. But, the job has to get done if you have this problem, and I was very pleased with all the prep work they did to limit the dust."

"I had a great experience with BWM. They handled my concerns professionally and the price was very competitive but I feel like i got a better product than I could have purchased retail - the new sump is very robust and I have faith my basement will stay dry now."

"<p>Showed up when promised for quote & actual repair. Very accommodating and honest. I felt like they would do whatever it takes to make the owner 100% satisfied. They repaired a floor to rim joist crack in the basement foundation wall and two leaking rod holes the right way and then ran water outside and soaked the troubled area to verify leak was sealed - quality work. I would recommend this company and will definitely use them again if needed.</p> <br />"

"I had Ever Dry inspect my basement due to water coming out of the trap door at the bottom on my furnace chimney. After a full inspection they determined that my problem was not my basement, it was with the chimney. They gave us suggestions on how to fix the issue even though it was not basement related which showed that they go out of their way to help the homeowner. Even though we didn&apos;t need their services, they still took the time to educate us on what signs we should look for in the future in case a basement issues begin. I feel more knowledgeable about basement walls and foundation, and found their suggestions to address our problem to be extremely valuable. Chuck B. and his co-worker Ray are tremendous assets for Ever Dry, and very trustworthy representatives of this company."

"I'd originally had an estimate done in 2011, and owner Ben suggested I wait a few months to determine if I really had a problem or not, as it had been an usually wet spring. I truly appreciate it when a service provider doesn't try to sell me something I might not actually need. After a few years, however, the water seepage worsened, so I called him back for an updated estimate and he said the job would be the same price as quoted four years ago. Great! On the day of the job, a three-man crew arrived precisely on time, worked professionally and efficiently, and finished up in 4-5 hours. When they needed to dig a few extra feel of trench to hook up the new drain tiles to my existing line, one of the men (Juan) clearly explained what they were doing and why. (There was no additional charge.)  I'd heard jobs like this could be dusty, but the workers didn't make any mess at all -- I'd say my basement floor is even cleaner now than it was before they arrived. Granted, it will take some heavy rains to know if the drain tiles are working properly, but up to this point, I am extremely pleased with Affordable Dry Basement and would very highly recommend them. <br />"

"I had JTW pipes replace a sump pump drain line in my back yard. They did an excellent job. Jayson, the owner, really knows what he is doing when it comes to in ground piping. Work was done on time, efficiently and at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend JTW Pipes!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Grosse Ile, MI

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
