"It went very well. When we first bid the project Mark identified quickly that this seemingly simple project was not so simple. Upon his advice we hired an architect to design the structure and necessary retaining wall. With the architect's assistance we were able to create the ideal garage given the limits or our site. The variance requests were submitted to the local authority and approved without any argument. Given local zoning law, to obtain the height needed for the project, the garage had to to match both the siding and the roof line of our 1908 foursquare house. All was built on a platform held in by a gorgeous boulder retaining wall. The final structure matches our house well, and is probably more solid structurally than the house it was built to compliment. I am particularly delighted by Northrup's recognition of our concern about minimizing the impact of both the construction process, and the final structure on the two massive trees in our back yard. Even though a skidsteer bobcat was used to move rock and fill to build the wall, all work was done on the alley side of the wall, and the soils between the tree and the retaining wall were not impacted. Northrup also helped engineer a wall that had a minimal foundation below ground so as not to cut roots of the big trees needlessly. Throughout the process Bob was attentive and responsive to our needs. Northrup built at premium structure for a fair price that we are going to appreciate for years to come."

Also, he did a lot to help us gain approval from our homeowners' association, who originally declined approval until Mike provided further specs and a photo from another job. "Barack, the owner of New Again Deck Renewal, was easy to work with, generous with his time and advice, and extremely fair in his pricing. He is a popular choice on Angie's list so he stays busy during the non-winter seasons and can be hard to schedule if you wait too long. Working through e-mails, I sent Barack photos of the current condition of the deck and he immediately offered me a couple of options - clean and stain or replace the deck planks. I asked him to come and look at the deck in person, so he did. Once he saw the actual deck he advised me to rip off the deck planks and replace them with new cedar. He assured me that the joists beneath the deck were sound. He suggested that I check out his site on the internet to see the recent work he'd done and to get a feel for different styles. "What you like is up to you," he said. "I can do whatever you want but you have to decide the look that you're comfortable with." So, I did that, and he then directed me to check out the Decks Direct site for railing options and prices. Barack sent me an estimate for his part of the project and carefully reviewed my choices of railing hardware. (I ended up spending about $2,000 for the metal railings). I provided a downpayment and we settled on an install date (trying to work between rainy days). I ordered the railing and had it shipped to my house. Everything went great. Barack and a partner were punctual and came and removed the old deck planks in one day and staged most of the new wood. He came back another day with a crew of four to cut and install the new wood and to assemble and install the railing hardware. The deck looks absolutely wonderful. Everything was cleaned up perfectly. We loved the experience. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to have the deck renewed! I highly recommend this company and, yes, I would use them again."
