He is a throwback to an era and perhaps more importantly a different part of the country where people respect their craft put honest advice above making a quick buck. I can't imagine using anyone else for Chimney needs. He was thorough but efficient and shared information that was useable--as opposed to trying to knock you over with jargon. We had issues with smoke backing up into the house, which he quickly diagnosed as a bad damper, but also pointed out that there was a second damper on the chimney that was still in great shape. So rather than try to sell me more than I needed, resolved the problem by removing the broken damper and adding a chimney cap. He also inspected our boiler chimney and while noting that replacement would be reasonable now, it isn't really needed for several more years, and we can do it any time between now and then when we're ready. We had spoken to other providers who clearly viewed their job as trying to replace/repair as much as humanly possible, right now. The concept of assessing whether or not something can be put off was a completely foreign concept to them."

The job entailed repairing the crown, repointing the entire chimney, repairing the stucco, and installing a liner in one of the flues. Oscar and his team were a pleasure to work with! "If you don't want to read the whole review (it's on the long side), here's the summary: Pete’s Chimney and More is a business that will exceed all of your expectations with work that is first rate and an owner who goes out of his way to make the experience so user friendly that for once you won’t dread the process of needing to have work done on your house. And now for the details… We needed to have the chimney on our house repaired. I called Pete’s Chimney, as I had water leaking into the attic from a crumbling chimney. Even though the answering machine said that they were on vacation, within minutes I received a return call from Pete and had set up an appointment for the day after New Years. When I picked up my mail on 12/31, however, the estimate was already in my mailbox with a clear itemization of the work that needed to be done. The estimate was more than fair, and given his willingness to come out on a holiday, I knew immediately we were moving ahead. Pete runs his business as if he is taking care of his family, as you feel as if your problem is his problem. He was able to make an appointment for the end of the week, keeping in touch with me to let me know when he was coming, what to expect, etc. The work is actually for my mother’s house, and as she is elderly and disabled, he went out of his way to make sure she would be comfortable with all of the plans. Ultimately, he was able to move the work up a day taking advantage of the nice weather, calling me to make sure that this would work for my mother. When his team arrived, they immediately got down to work not even stopping to come inside to warm up, and it was a very brisk day! (They even passed on pizza in order to keep working!) The work done was top-rate, with the chimney angles crisp and clean. The work area was tidy the entire time and was left immaculate looking better than when they had started. (I’m not making this up; they had a leaf blower to make sure nothing was left amiss!) When the team left, I had a question for Pete and within minutes of texting him, he replied. I called him, and he went through his answer in detail explaining how the chimney had been reconstructed. While his answer far exceeded my question, I so appreciated his willingness to spend the time making sure I was completely satisfied with all parts of the job. In the end, the job was even more thorough than I had expected, and I now look forward to my new chimney’s long life! So often, and rightfully so, people write reviews when things don’t go well. I’m not sure that we spend as much time writing reviews when things go well. In this case, I could not be happier or more pleased with my interactions from start to finish with Pete’s Chimney and More. Pete’s integrity as a business owner and the expertise of his team stand out making me thrilled to see that he offers many other services that we will be able to use in the future. "Total Chimney installed a new stainless steel cap over my three flue chimney. An initial misunderstanding about price was quickly and fairly resolved with the owner. The three crews which came to my house were all very professional, although the lead tech at the first visit did not measure, so the special order cap did not fit and a second one had to be ordered. During the whole process, my phone calls to the office were quickly returned and communication was excellent. I am very pleased with how everything was handled and recommend Total Chimney."
