"04/07/2015 The installation of the backup sump pump follows the work Basement Pros performed for me in May, 2014.(Angies List review on-line). The job was to install a french drain and sump pump in the basement. As my review of 14 May, 2014 indicates, I was 100% satisfied with the contractor and the work performed. I contracted Basement Pros again, this time to install a Zoeller Battery Backup Sump Pump System. Again, I was happy to deal with Karen in the office, and Donny on the installation. Donny showed up like clockwork Saturday morning. He had the system installed exactly in the length of time Karen had said it would take him. I threw them a curve ball by asking to have the discharge line from the pump/well in the basement redirected from it's original placement outside. There was no problem, or charge, with the request. However, as with just about everything else that is done around here, it ended up being more work than I had hoped. Donny then took his time, thought it through, and did a top-notch job! Once again, at No additional charge. Basement Pros is a First Class firm. They are well priced, very friendly, and provide great service. If anyone reading this is in the market for this type work on their home, look no further. I am completely confident in recommending Basement Pros, in all aspects. Peace! "Before we even decided to hire Comer Construction, Larry came out to our condo in Rehoboth Beach (an hour's drive from his location in Maryland) to estimate the cost. Larry spent an hour in our home discussing our ideas and offering suggestions for improving our plans. He provided a thorough estimate with a clear timeline for performing our work, recommended Kitchen Concepts for our cabinetry & granite countertops, and installed COREtec vinyl plank flooring & a glass tile backsplash that we purchased from another vendor. The work was performed as scheduled over a week and the construction area was cleaned up at the end of each day. Larry was able to compensate for some significant flaws in the structure (uneven floors and ceiling height) to create a professional finished look. When Kitchen Concepts delivered the wrong shelving for our pantry closet, Larry was able to get the correct shelving and installed it within a week even though it meant another 2 hour round trip for what amounted to a 15 minute installation. Larry is a skilled craftsman who approaches the job with honesty and integrity. He was able to do all of the work (cabinetry, flooring, tiling, appliance installation, minor electric wiring & plumbing) without the need of sub-contractors which saved us time and money. We will definitely use Comer Construction for our next project."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Hebron, MD

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
