"Hal's work is top-notch but I grew increasingly frustrated with the timing and inconsistency of his work habits. His was one of several estimates I received and basically he said he would beat any estimate I received. The difference is that everyone else was going to use cedar and he only works with pressure-treated Southern yellow pine, which is less than half the cost of cedar. I was unsure of the durability and longevity of that product so I did extensive research online. Still unsure, I drive around the Twin Cities to see other jobs Hal did that gave stood the test of time and I decided to move forward. Clearly, the way he builds his fences require considerably more manual labor than those built with cedar posts and pickets so essentially instead of paying for the higher cost of cedar, you pay for increased labor costs. Unfortunately, Hal isn't as going as predicting when he will get jobs complete as he is completing them well. He was over a month late in getting started and I repeatedly had to call him to inquire about the delay. It was quite frustrating but since I didn't absolutely need the fence done by a certain date, I decided to practice patience. Once he finally started, most days he and his helper only worked 4 hours so the project dragged on far longer than I thought it would. Admittedly, there were a couple of weather-related days but other times when it was a perfect day, they wouldn't show up and I would give no idea when they were coming again. After I told him I really needed to have him be more communicative, he was and within a short time after that conversation, he completed the fence. The fence is beautiful and appears very sturdy. We'll see how it withstands time and weather but for now I am very happy with it. Hal does beautiful work but if you are on a strict timeline I would not recommend working with him. If you are flexible and don't mind putting more effort into communication, he is a great person to work with.

"I think the finishing around the window could've been a little bit nicer. Our basement isn't really finished. It still the brick wall, cement wall.It just seems like it could've been finished off more than it was. They were quick. I didn't see a lot of debris or anything. I know sawing through cement can be messy but they seemed to be very clean and efficient. They were out here pretty quick. We checked around and they were very reasonable."

"I met with the salesman on May 5, signed the contract on May 7 which included a June 16 start date, July 5 finish date. The start date was changed to June 30th, then July 28. Long story short, the project was finally completed December 31. There were multiple errors, delays, and poor communication. Most of the delays were due to an out of state engineer who is not very responsive, or so I was told. I am pleased with the finished product, and the cost, but the process was grueling. As time went on the communication did improve, and the workers were very nice. I've been told by the owner that many lessons were learned during my lengthy project, which should have been done in 2 1/2 weeks according to the salesman.
Follow up: it's spring 2015 and the subfloor under the linoleum is buckling, which is not surprising. It was left exposed to sitting water for months during construction due to extended delays. It was buckling after that, and all that was done was sanding the raised areas, which was not a solution based on the outcome. I'm in contact with the owner, Clint, regarding this problem and will follow up on how it is delt with. Clint came and looked at and photographed the issue, we decided to see if it gets worse, and if so, implement a repair.
Follow up 2: now that it's warm we noticed many bugs in the sunroom, and discovered that the screen guards were not installed, creating a bug freeway on every door and window, reported this to Clint, waiting now for this to be taken care of, no ETA has been given..."

"Wanted to wait to see how things settled/ weathered, prior to writing a review.   They were very nice and professional, cleaned the edges of the driveway, and put a thin layer of sealant on.  Looked great at first, but over time (six months ) wore down  .... maybe it needs to be an annual thing, or they should put two coats on.

"From day 1 it was a night and day experience. They actually showed up, so they were already off to a better start. Worked with the city and structural engineer to ensure safe completion of structural work, worked with me on layout and design. Work area was always tarped off to avoid dirtying up the rest of the house, and the worksite was so clean I wanted to hire them as housecleaners afterwards. Very respectful of our property and time, and our money. There were a couple change orders, and I was on the front of them every time- I knew what was going on, I was able to make decisions on which way I wanted to go with things. There was constant updates and communication, they were always willing to meet me onsite to discuss progress. Their subs were great as well. I had a lot of changes and additions I made during the project and they were happy to accommodate. I was never in the dark on anything- always knew where my money was, if there were delays, if we needed to change or update something. We've already engaged them on another project. I absolutely love these guys and would recommend them to anyone. They saved my house. I was ready to walk away from the stupid thing and now it's coming together as the dream house I hoped it would be. "Paul did a fantastic job. He was easy to work with, cared about our expectations, was creative in his suggestions, and he was very detailed in his workmanship. He also checked in a few times throughout the week to see if we had any questions or had any comments for him.  Our rooms were initially dingy, outdated, and closed in; now we love being in the new updated space!  It's modern, fresh, open, and bright. "I bought an Angie's List deal on 4/20/2016. Dmitri called on 4/29/2016 to set up a time. He came on 5/4/2016 but didn't have the equipment to go up on the roof or measure windows. He said he was going on vacation and could he get back to me after 5/16-I told him that was fine. He didn't contact me after the 16th so I called him on 6/6/2016. He said he could stop on Wednesday 6/8/2016 to measure windows. No call, no show. On 6/14/2016, I got a text at 8:00 p.m. asking when he could stop over to measure windows. We set up for 5:00 p.m. the next day. At 5:05 the next day, he called saying that it was his anniversary and he couldn't show up. I asked him when he could stop by to look at the roof and he said he would stop by before the end of the week. He asked if I had a sample piece of siding that he could take. I put out the siding which was still there one week later. On 6/22/2016, I sent him a text and he said that he would still have to order windows that would take at least 3 weeks and the soonest he could start my project was some time in August. I contacted Angie's List to see if I could get a refund which they said I couldn't since it was over 30 days. I sent Dmitri a text on 6/30/2016 saying that Angie's List wouldn't refund my money and that I would still need his services. As of today, August 16, 2016, I have received no response. UPDATE: The contractor said that he never received my 6/30/2016 text which is why he never contacted me."
