"The service provider was very nice, the workers were professional, and the patio looks very nice.
I bought this through an Angie's List Deal, so got a fantastic price.
Because of a big response to the Deal it took way too long to get the work done.  I would use this provider again but I don't think I would ever buy an Angie's list deal.

"After reviewing Angie's List of rated home landscaping providers, including special attention to customer reviews, we decided to visit Garden Central, Inc. located in Berkley, Michigan the weekend after Labor Day.  After a brief discussion with owner Scott Pittman, we scheduled a visit to our home by Scott on September 17, 2015.  After viewing our existing landscaping and our desire for improvements, Scott developed a proposal at a cost of $13,400 scheduled for November 16.  A subsequent revision to Scott's work schedule enabled an earlier installation on November 10.  Scott and Justin (who has been with Scott for 19 years) arrived promptly on Monday morning and over the next two days proceeded to remove 32 Blue Juniper plants and replace them with 14 Mohican Vibucaum plants at the front walk and east side of our garage, replace a dead shrub at Southwest corner of home with 3 Rose bushes, plant 20 Boxwood bushes and 3 larger Boxwood  bushes along back side of home to eventually duplicate a Boxwood bush hedge at front of home, and install 4 large Boxwood bushes around an electrical transformer on front left side of driveway.  Installation also included addition of Peat Moss and Manure to amend soil for the new plantings and addition of Cedar Bark Brown Mulch to cover the roots of all new plantings.  The addition of the 4 large Boxwood plants around the electrical transformer was a late addition to our project and is responsible for the final project cost of $14,800.  Scott and Justin were able to complete all work by Tuesday evening despite an all day light rain on Tuesday.  Scott also disposed of a pile of plant trimmings I had forgot to dispose of during the summer and added a small Boxwood bush to the front hedge in front free of charge.  After installation, Scott discussed the required care and feeding of the new plantings and suggested that we replace our existing black mulch with brown cedar mulch, which is a much healthier alternative for existing plants.  Scott also suggested applying Wilt Pruf to all broad leaf evergreens to protect them against Winter weather damage.  Finally, Scott left us with a checklist of suggested steps to follow year around to insure the continued health of our plants and provided us with his cellular telephone number should we need additional consultation.
Our overall experience with Garden Central, Inc. (both Scott and Justin) has been simply outstanding.  Scott installs only plants which are specific for Southeast Michigan weather to insure project success.  He is VERY accesssible should you have project followup questions or concerns and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable.  I deliberately delayed providing this evaluation until most of the Winter has passed to see how well our new plants have adapted to their new new surroundings and I am delighted with the results.
I would recommend Garden Central, Inc. to anyone looking to anyone in need of a top notch landscaping company.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Highland, MI

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
