"The customer service was good, but the paint job was not worth 2400. They too the doors off my vanity for 4 days instead of just leaving them off until finished. I can see paint brush lines, and they did come back to smooth the caulking in the corner of the door casing. I have now hired a company who is basically going to pain all of the inside. They are spraying all doors, casing, and baseboards. The job was suppose to be no longer than 2 days, but it took 4 1/2 days. I definitely need to do better vetting those who do work on the house. "

"Dave from Foundation Recovery came and did my annual basement inspection. I’ve had a sump pump - and gutters to direct the water to it - installed by them, for three years. And so far I’ve had no water in my basement. Even during the heavy spring rains in KC. Dave was very friendly and professional, and very knowledgeable about basements and their problems. He answered all my questions to my satisfaction. I appreciate the great service Dave! Thanks."

"What a joy to find a contractor who answers the phone, returns calls, shows up when he says he will, is easy to talk to and cares about customer satisfaction. I could not be more pleased with finding Adam Hill of AMH Construction. His crew is personable and knowledgeable as well. The work is 80% complete and the only delay has been rain. He has been patient with my decision making and never once did I feel like I was being talked down to, or that my opinion was not listened to. Attention to detail is superb, quality workmanship is obvious and he problem solved easily. I plan to hire him again for other work if possible."

"Randy was just awesome! He was very knowledgeable and very kind. I called him around 10 am after having a new refrigerator delivered. I explained that I needed some help with the water line that connects to the ice maker/water dispenser. He explained over the phone what likely needed to happen and then told me that he would get back with me in a couple of hours. I gave him my address and info and sure enough--2 hours later he comes, takes a look at what I need done, went to the hardware store, and bought what was needed. He then came back and installed everything and spent a good deal of time talking to me about installing our gutters. He's very friendly and I would not hesitate to call him again if we need work done on our house or remodeling. The quality of service we received definitely exceeded the price we paid to hire him. Randy, if you see this, thanks again very much for all of your help today!"

"Originally hired for kitchen remodel. Went so well, we hired for our bath and again for our family room remodels. They were always on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. The estimates were spot on for the total bill. Ran into unforeseen problems on the bathroom remodel, they worked the weekend to finish the project on date promised. Very pleased with quality of the work and would recommend to anyone for a remodel. Ask for Robert, he is very friendly and honest. Even my cat loved him."

"My garage/basement wall had water intrusion and cracks. Frank Sullivan came out and provided me with available options and estimates for each solution. I chose to have I-beams installed to the floor joists and seal the cracks. The work was explained before hand and I knew what to expect. The work crew finished in under 4 hours and now I have peace of mind about the support for my home and dry basement for years to come thanks to the warranty. The work crew was excellent."

"Lamonte painting did a fabulous job painting 3 rooms, a bathroom and a closet for me. Everything looked wonderful. No drips, or smears on the ceiling or in any furniture carpet or anything. I will definitely use them again and the price was also awesome!"

"We purchased a foreclosure that had sat empty for over 12 months. For those of you in the know, if the humidity is not well controlled on a vacant property, the likelihood of mold increases significantly. Prior to purchase we had a lab test conducted and received high mold count in the basement and first floor. We checked Angie's List for providers and after a couple of phone calls, had our 2 top firms out to the house to give an estimate. Both companies were extremely professional, but Nichole from Midwest exuded a confidence about the action plan that we immediately gave them the job. Nichole even took into account our rehab plan for the house and advised us on how her operations would coincide with everything else we have planned. The process was lengthy but expected. Midwest installed scrubbers and Hepa-vacced the entire house. Also included was labor to remove the carpet and tack strip. (we had decided to replace carpet prior to buying the house). They cleaned out all the vents and cleaned the furnace. There was a good line of communication between us and Midwest the entire time. There was never any doubt about where we were in the project or if the timeline would be met. When they retested after the process, the results were stunning. The unaffiliated lab sent back the numbers and Midwest was able to shoot past my highest expectations on the results and gave us a safe house for our family. We were even pleased by the final invoice format. It was line by line and showed a clear correlation on the final amount. None of that scrap paper invoice some contractors use... For anyone needing mold remediation, I can 100% attest to the quality of this company. They make a serious problem easy to handle and do it with utter professionalism."

"I was very happy with Craig's work, he was on time both for the estimate and for the job itself. He did the work quickly and I am very happy with the results. Additionally, while I knew that I wanted to change from the plastic to improve the durability of the roof, I wasn't sure what material would be best. Craig talked me through the options and was even willing to go take pictures and send them to me as the location he was getting it from was far away from me."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Holden, MO

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
