"Absolutely Fantastic I have worked with many wonderful contractors over the years but Rick Cox (dba Carolina Carpenter) is at the top of the list. He and his son, Josh, are extremely talented, resourceful and get the job done at a reasonable cost. They and the electrician, plumber and other professionals they use are delightful to work with and of the highest honesty and integrity. In June 2018 my wife and I purchased a house in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC which was beautifully located but in need a great deal of work. After interviewing a number of contractors, we chose Rick because of his directness, obvious competence and easy manner. The renovation required complete gutting of the core areas, including the removal of several walls and a faux stone wood-burning fireplace. Rick started while we were still in NY and when we arrived in mid-August, he had neatly removed the fireplace. In the following 11 months, he replaced it with gas burning fireplaces in the living room and adjoining Master Bedroom (a very difficult thing to do in the space we had), expanded the rear hall, closed several exterior windows, installed 4 exterior windows and sliding doors, re-floored, re-sided and painted most of the common areas, rebuilt and upgraded the stairway to the lower level and put in a fantastic new kitchen. The project cost six figures and encountered many setbacks as removal of walls and floors exposed poor electrical work and many other preexisting deficiencies. However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. You would be fortunate to have Rick and Josh working with you. We were. They came as workmen but stayed as friends. "Trevor has been an amazing contractor who has helped us through the process of installing a large interior door for an office. He has helped ensure the space was properly prepared for installation of the door. The other contractors who have assisted Trevor have also exceeded my expectations. They have been extremely detail oriented and have done everything to ensure the best outcome. I would definitely work with Trevor for any future projects."

"-They performed several services: power washed my roof, deck and entire home; repaired deck railings installed every poorly by another person; then carefully prepared and stained the deck and ramp. -Jesse was prompt in contacting me to arrange a visit to evaluate my needs and recommended some improvements. The itemized estimate was sent within 24 hours. -The entire crew was courteous and professional. They worked efficiently to complete the tasks. -I'm very pleased with the results of the power washing, my roof looks new again. The handrails were replaced (correctly) on my deck and ramp. The stain looks great. -I would definitely use them again. A great team!"

"From this point forward, this company will be my go-to for any home repairs I need. We were looking for a trash can fenced enclosure that was installed rather poorly a few years ago. Our handyman, Jose (jose@charlotte), was attentive, thorough, and dedicated to the best outcome for our family. He arrived on time, remained a consummate professional, and helped us make the best decisions for our improvement project. We are so pleased with the outcome. Thank you, Jose, and thank you, Cransten. Moving forward, this will be my go-to home improvement company!"

"John and his crew did an absolutely beautiful job on our bathroom remodel. The house is 90 years old so there were many small problems that came up but they kept very close to the budget. We are very happy with the amount of value we got for our money. We will definitely call them again."

"John Squires is very responsive, professional, and courteous. During the week between Christmas and New Years, we needed a new contractor ASAP for a house we were about to close on and we did not hold out much hope for finding someone on short notice during the holidays. John called us back shortly after we left him a message and agreed to meet with us the next day at the property. The next day, John spent a lot of time with us going through the entire house, pointing out issues that were previously not brought to our attention. He also offered creative ideas for making the space work with careful consideration to our budget. Further, being two women, we are wary of every new male contractor as we have experienced numerous contractors and handymen to be condescending and patronizing (lots of "darlin'" and "honey" and an inability to realize that we know what we are talking about and are not inexperienced or naive about home restoration). John was the opposite, deliberating with him on the house was like talking with a close male friend that respected you and saw you as an equal. We even felt comfortable enough to share with him that we appreciated and noted his approach and manner. As mentioned before, John was very thorough in his assessment of the house and pointed out issues that others had missed. For instance, he pointed out a panel of asbestos in the second story that the person we had paid to assess the house for asbestos had missed. He also pointed out how the foundation had been compromised in a few places in the crawlspace where the current owners had begun digging out the space to convert it into a basement. Ultimately, we pulled out of the contract on the house, so we have not yet been able to work with John on construction. However, John's assessment and insights into the house partly informed our decision to back out of the deal and in hindsight know it was the right thing to do. Without John's perspective, we may have moved forward with the purchase and regretted it later. We are now looking for a different property in Asheville and will absolutely be working with John in the future."

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Horse Shoe, NC

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
