"Fantastic! Randy called ahead to let me know he was on his way and was right on time. We discussed repairing the existing openers that were 10 years old. He told me about the benefits of newer systems and I chose to replace rather than repair. The job took exactly the amount of time he estimated and the price was fair. Randy helped me find a coupon which reduced the price per unit a bit. I highly recommend Randy and Metro Garage Door."

"I called and owner scheduled an appointment that worked for me. Peyton called before the appointment to confirm and tell me a window of time for him to show up. He showed up right on time and replaced both garage door openers. Took time to explain their operation and help connect my two cars to the openers. Fixed the doors to open more easily and showed me how to best oil the moving parts. Price was exactly as quoted on the phone. I chose Champion because of their over 2,000 excellent reviews. They lived up to their reputation. Would definitely choose them again for any issues with my garage doors."

"Technicians examined my garage door and diagnosed the problems with it. They completed repairs the same evening and I had a brand new motor assembly which is quiet and working perfectly since. They do nice work."

"“Brian Bennett was the Handyman assigned to our list of projects this year. He was great. It's always tough to come into a 100-year-old home and get a long list of things to "fix." You never know what lurks beneath the surface! But Brian was tenacious and cheerful and got everything done. Of course there were a few trips to Menards! )We've used Handyman Connections for years and we've never been disappointed. In the past that's included tile, deck, ceiling repair, electrical, hardwood floors, and more -- they've done it all.)"

"Structurally the chimney is sound but aesthetically it is not. To make the best match to the rest of my house, Joe recommended he blend two types of brick. However when the brick was placed the two types of brick were not well blended. When I pointed out my dissatisfaction in this he blamed me for picking to blend two types of brick. He never pointed out the risk/downside of doing this and told him as the professional he should have advised me of this and then it would have been my issue if it didn't turn out well. He finally acquiesced and came and replaced some of the bricks. He tried to short cut the repair and not acid wash the brick like he did the first time. He only did this after I mentioned that there was a lot of excess mortar. He then tried to play it off like he was planning to acid wash it again. It looked fine after the acid washing but now I have dried excess mortar at the top of my chimney that has not come off over time. I would have called him to fix but he was so disgruntled/upset during my final interaction/payment with him that I didn't feel comfortable talking to him again. He probably feels my expectations of the rebuild were too high but I feel that his communication and setting expectations were not adequate. I also feel that while the structural is extremely important the artistic portion of the work is also very important and needs to be considered instead of just placing whatever brick is closest to you next even if it is the same color as the bricks nearby. I wish I would have hired a different company that took more care in this area and also one that I felt tried to shortcut the job through being forceful/persuading that ok was good enough. I feel that he underestimated my ability to stand up for having the job done right because I am a single female. To make sure I did not write this review in anger, I made sure to allow ample time to cool off from any interactions that I had with Joe to make sure my review was not emotional.

"Super awesome, fantastic, speedy, friendly service. They came and went above and beyond to replace my garage opener with a high-quality one. I would call them back for my other opener in a heartbeat. They noticed that the company that put in my garage door didn't lube the tracks and was causing issues and making the door noisy. They greased them and now I can hardly hear it. They gave tons of helpful advice. My only knock was that there were a small amount of staples that were scattered about the garage floor that I had to sweep up."

FAQs for garage door opener repair or adjustment projects in Howard Lake, MN

Garage door costs range somewhat broadly, depending on the type you choose. However, you’ll also need to factor in labor costs, which vary from state to state and between pros.

A chain driven operator costs between $150 - $250. For a belt driven operator it is usually $160 - $450. A screw-driven operator is between $250-$500.

To keep garage door opener repair costs down, you should check that the whole apparatus is working normally on a regular basis. This means making sure that the tracks of your door are greased and fully operational, and that the door itself is in good condition.

Installing a new garage door opener runs from $250 to $500 at least. If your repair costs are close in cost to that range or if your garage door is 10 to 15 years old, you should probably replace it instead of repair.

However, it’s a better idea to fix your garage door opener if it’s less than eight years old or if repair costs are less than replacing.

Garage door openers usually last between 10 and 15 years. However, several factors contribute to how long your garage door opener can last. If you schedule regular inspections and practice proper care, you can maximize your garage door opener’s lifespan, saving money in the long run. As a general rule, practice the same care for your garage door opener as you would the door itself.

These tell-tale signs indicate your garage door is going bad, including:

  • Not closing or opening at all

  • The door reversing when you try to open and/or close it

  • Inconsistent opening and closing; more noise than usual (grinding, scraping, or banging)

  • Sticking or stalling when you try to open or close it

If you experience one or more of these signs, it’s time to call a professional garage door repair service.
