"My encounter with Don Norwood and Charter Construction Inc has been one of the best things that I have had happen in the last few years. Now the rest of the story: Several years ago we had new windows installed on the second story of our family home. That and the installation of a cellar sump pump, pushed the El Ninneo two years. In 2017 about February, Los Angeles received substantial rain. Three of the windows with curved tops, allowed rain water to leak into the wall and destroy part the ceiling in our living room. The unnamed window company sent out people to inspect their installation, and I showed the the six inch long by sixteenth inch wide gaps in the three windows. They said that wasn't the problem, but ordered new arch pieces, installed them and eliminated the gaps, and leak, I hope? I asked a painter to give me an estimate to repair the ceiling and the shelf under the kitchen sink. I really want to use them again. After many months of needing from one of my sisters I called HomeAdvisor. They referred me to Charter Construction Inc. Don Norwood showed up at the correct time. Took measurements and told me what he would have would do, and what the repairs would cost. I asked Don how long the job would take and he said two and a half days, and that it would look as good as the rest of the living room. I don't know if could see how eager I was to sign but he was ready to start next Monday. I said I needed some time to get my mother to appointments and back to the second floor. I think the work started January 19th 2018 and finished about noon on the 21st. The CCI crew made an excellent repair, painted the entire living room and also repaired the shelf under the kitchen sink. Oh Yeah, left the place so clean that OK better stop there. Several weeks later I was told there was stain on the kitchen ceiling. No problem, I'll just call Don. He had the ceiling opened and discovered there was a leak in an eighty plus year ols showe drain piper. Don aldo has his crew repair a leak in the washing machine shut off valve box and moved the valve box so I didn't have to reach behind the washing machine. Don had the crew paint the entire kitchen ceiling in addition the area was left absolutely clean. I do have more work for CCI, like repairing the window scree on the new windows, to defuse the reflected sunlight the acts like a death ray on the front lawn and melted the windshield wipers on our car. The gardener says it feels like 140 degrees. CCI and Don could work with This Old House."

FAQs for carpentry framing installation projects in Huntington Park, CA

Professional contractors complete basement framing in three to five days, depending on the size and complexity of your space. Projects with simple, open layouts progress faster than those with multiple rooms and corners. DIY framers should expect the job to take significantly longer, potentially seven to 10 days or more, depending on experience level and available time. The timeline doesn't include other aspects of basement finishing like drywall installation, electrical work, or finishing touches, which extend the overall renovation schedule.

Most municipalities require building permits for basement framing projects. These permits cost between $1,200 and $2,000, ensuring your renovation meets local building codes for safety and structural integrity. Working without proper permits can result in penalties, forced removal of completed work, and complications when selling your home. Your local building department can provide specific information about permit requirements, inspection schedules, and any special considerations for basement renovations in your area.

For basement framing, use pressure-treated lumber for bottom plates (the horizontal boards that contact concrete floors) to prevent moisture damage and rot. Standard kiln-dried lumber is suitable for wall studs and top plates that don't directly contact concrete surfaces. The most common lumber dimension for basement wall framing is two-by-four, though some situations may call for two-by-six lumber to accommodate thicker insulation. Always check local building codes, as some jurisdictions have specific requirements for basement framing materials.

You can install drywall after framing is complete and inspected, but several important steps should happen first. Ensure any electrical, plumbing, or HVAC rough-ins are completed and inspected before closing up walls. Installing insulation between studs is highly recommended for temperature control and moisture management. Drywall installation adds an average of $3 to $4 per linear foot to your project, with painting costing an additional $2 to $6 per square foot. Address any moisture concerns before enclosing walls to prevent future damage and mold issues.
