Small jobs welcome

"Josh and his crew came in with a timeframe of getting the work done and completed it on time and professionally. They worked for a week straight installing luxury vinyl flooring in my entire home, along with molding and thresholds. The job was done beautifully. I will be hiring them again in Spring for outdoor deck work for sure!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"Reilly was prompt and got to work right away. He read all the instructions for assembling the tv console, then, laid all the pieces out in order of assembly. He worked fast and got it all put together in no time (and there were a lot of pieces to this thing). It is very stable and the doors work smoothly. I also hired him to help me take the old console and get in my SUV. He was a very nice guy who is good at his work and acted very professional. I would certainly hire him again."

"Geo did a fantastic job; not only did he put some screws in the top part of the top siding panel that was slipping, he installed some screws on both of the top siding panels spaced all along the house b/c there weren't any, so this won't happen again even with the other siding piece that was in place. He's very nice and prompt also. I'll definitely call him again!"

Small jobs welcome

"This is the second time that I've used Mr. Handyman and have been impressed both times. In each case it was very easy to schedule the job. Since both jobs were carpentry, Matt was the technician assigned by Mr. Handyman. He is an excellent carpenter, shows up on time, and works very diligently to get the work done in a timely fashion. I am very pleased with the finished product and recommend Mr. Handyman without hesitation."

"About five years ago, I had Chris and his team install a French door and vinyl tile in my kitchen and dining room. I was very impressed with the professionalism and skill of the team... always on time and exceptional job. Recently, I asked Chris to give me an estimate on a small repair job. Again , he was extremely helpful. I recommended Leon to my sister and my nephew and they were very satisfied with his work."

Customers say: Quick response

"J & W did an excellent job installing drywall on two new wall partitions. They performed the work quickly and were at the job site exactly when they said they would be there. Walter was very easy to work with and clearly cared about the quality of the work. Their rates were quite reasonable. I would highly recommend them."

FAQs for carpentry framing installation projects in Raleigh, NC

Professional contractors complete basement framing in three to five days, depending on the size and complexity of your space. Projects with simple, open layouts progress faster than those with multiple rooms and corners. DIY framers should expect the job to take significantly longer, potentially seven to 10 days or more, depending on experience level and available time. The timeline doesn't include other aspects of basement finishing like drywall installation, electrical work, or finishing touches, which extend the overall renovation schedule.

Most municipalities require building permits for basement framing projects. These permits cost between $1,200 and $2,000, ensuring your renovation meets local building codes for safety and structural integrity. Working without proper permits can result in penalties, forced removal of completed work, and complications when selling your home. Your local building department can provide specific information about permit requirements, inspection schedules, and any special considerations for basement renovations in your area.

For basement framing, use pressure-treated lumber for bottom plates (the horizontal boards that contact concrete floors) to prevent moisture damage and rot. Standard kiln-dried lumber is suitable for wall studs and top plates that don't directly contact concrete surfaces. The most common lumber dimension for basement wall framing is two-by-four, though some situations may call for two-by-six lumber to accommodate thicker insulation. Always check local building codes, as some jurisdictions have specific requirements for basement framing materials.

You can install drywall after framing is complete and inspected, but several important steps should happen first. Ensure any electrical, plumbing, or HVAC rough-ins are completed and inspected before closing up walls. Installing insulation between studs is highly recommended for temperature control and moisture management. Drywall installation adds an average of $3 to $4 per linear foot to your project, with painting costing an additional $2 to $6 per square foot. Address any moisture concerns before enclosing walls to prevent future damage and mold issues.
