"In the past, this gate had been secured by chain and padlock, which had to be replaced several times due to people using bolt cutters on the chain.  I purchased an extra secure hasp and padlock and needed someone to weld the hasp onto the gates.  I called Rudy and left a message.  He got back to me shortly after that.  I told him that I knew that this job was outside of his work area, but would like for him to consider it anyway.  He said that if I gave him an extra $15 for gas, that he would do the work.  That seemed fair enough to me, so I agreed, and we scheduled it for a couple of days later.  Rudy showed up on time, and did just what I needed him to do.  In casual conversation while he worked, he told me that he had been a certified welder since the time he was 17 years old in the Czech Republic, and his welds showed that experience.  We didn't discuss it at the time, but based on the tools he had with him, he does a wide variety of home repair projects, and I would guess that he is every bit as competent at those as he is at welding.
