"Matt Green and his crew were very professional and very easy to get a hold of with questions before, during, and after the project was finished. We had a small issue with caulking after the bathtub was installed. I believe we used the shower too soon and it caused the caulk to leak down into the bathtub. We called Matt and he agreed to immediately recaulk the bathtub. We agreed to have him do it while we went on vacation two months later so it would give the caulk plenty of time to dry. He and his crew were amazing people to work with. They stuck very close to the original quote. We did have an issue with the plumbing, which caused the price to go up slightly, but Matt did his best to keep it as close to the original quote, despite the fact that there was an unforeseeable cost increase due to way old pipes and leakage that we were unaware of to begin with. There was no way for him or the plumber he uses to know about it until they tore up the floor and got into the nitty gritty of fixing the flooring. They were wonderful to work with. They always answered calls and were very agreeable about recaulking, even though I believe we bore some of the responsibility for it failing originally. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They are honest, hard-working, had the project done in a timely manner (it was our only bathroom and they did everything within their power to make sure we were without a bathroom for the least amount of time as possible). We allowed them into our house over our vacation to finish up the caulking, and we would not allow just any contractor such access if we did not find them to be trustworthy. What a great group of people. Finally, a nice hometown business that sticks to its word and works with you in a timely, friendly way. Please, if you need something done in the manner of carpentry or even more extensive work, I would definitely reccomend them to you. You will not be disappointed. They are nice, talented, responsive, and trustworthy workers. Such a rare find these days. Their work was excellent and I cannot say a bad word about them if I tried to think of even something small. I would definitely re-hire them for other work needed done. I can't say enough good about them. We found them through Home Advisor, and I thank this website for introducing us to them. Excellent work, excellent attitudes, excellent follow-up, and they stand behind their work. Took a lot of stress off of us and made a lot of decisions for us bc we didn't know what we wanted exactly. They chose excellently and our bathroom looks great, and they stayed in budget. Just a great group of guys."

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
