"Very well. Chris was a good communicator and gave me a contract with everything we had discussed laid out with prices listed. He was clear and ready to do the job in a couple of weeks. Ken, the general contractor, knows it all and added an outlet and a light above my mirror which was great! Meticulous work in an old house with wonky corners and trim. I will definitely be calling on CTE again!"

Though I started my company 16 years ago with the idea that customer satisfaction should be #1, I have been in the construction industry for 28 years working in all phases of building. I pride myself in the knowledge that I listen to what the customer wants and am able to give the customer a final product that they are happy with. I'm able to do this because I am on the job doing the actual work or there when my sub-contractors are working. I keep a connection with my customers by letting them know that they can call me any time that I may not be at the job. My goal is to design a project so that it blends in with the house and neighborhood and looks as if it was there from when the house was built. I use sub-contractors for the specialty trades such as electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and other trades such as drywall, insulation, block masons, and framing specialist if the jobs are bigger and need more manpower. My company consist of myself and one other employee so to keep that personal touch there. I also work with homeowners who are trying to sell their homes and need small repairs done after the home inspectors have left their list, or to enhance the curb appeal. I also love working with people who have small jobs that need to be done around the house that may be more than they wish to handle. I have also worked with owners who have wanted to build their own homes and do work on it themselves but need guidance in the planning and implementation of such a project.I will do as little or as much as the owner wishes. I do not charge for estimates. If the owner wishes me to design and draw plans fees are charged based upon what the owner wishes for me to do and develope. I will give a homeowner a price based upon what they want and work with them if their wants are over their budgets to get the most for their money. We are especially sensitive to homeowners knowing that they are living in the home when we are doing work and make sure that we use every precaution to keep the jobsite clean and safe for everyone in the family. References are available as requested.
"Rick and Josh did an incredible job modernizing our North Asheville home. The quality of the work was excellent and they were communicative and transparent. They added an entirely new deck to the lower level of our home and the craftsmanship was top notch. Rick is a true professional and I would absolutely work with him again."

"Five Star Bath Solutions doesn't deserve even 1 star. Five Star Bath Solutions contacted me after I listed on Angi's List I wanted to remodel a bathroom. The employees are personable and pictures of completed showers look nice. I was tempted to use them because they could schedule the job within 3 to 6 weeks and told me it would take 2 to 3 days. I explained what I wanted to the salesman. She had Bo, her project mgr come to the house to ck the job before scheduling. The salesman told me Five Star used high quality materials. Bo told me they would move the vent, complete the drywall, set the new toilet supplied by me, fix a hole in the floor that opened to the basement and do flooring. While Bo stayed in the bathroom looking it over - the salesman and I sat at a table while she went over the prices. I am ashamed to admit I agreed to $13,316. I paid a $6,000 deposit. I didn't realize Bo made some changes to my plan. The Five Star installer showed up by himself. I asked if he would fix the hole in the floor first as it was dangerous. He replied: I don't do that. I asked if he would repair a few drywall holes when he put up the new drywall. He replied: I don't put up or patch drywall. I asked where the vent would be moved. He replied: I don't move the vent. Perplexed, I called Kristen the office mgr. I told her the installer was not prepared to do the items Bo said he would do. Also, I told her the materials looked cheap. Kristen told me I couldn't tell if the materials were cheap just by looking at them. She said they only installed showers and I must have misunderstood. I told her I would pay $1,000 for the small amount of demolition that had been done and to stop the job. I asked for my deposit back. She said she would get back to me. Later the owner of Five Star Bath Solutions called me. He said there was a misunderstanding. He wanted to keep $3,000 for materials ordered to stop the job. In retrospect I should have taken the loss and learned a lesson. He offered to deduct $3,816 from the shower price if I let the installer put the shower in. I caved and let them continue the job. The installer asked me where I wanted the seat installed. Bo had changed the shower to a smaller size. No one would have been able to stand comfortably if the seat had been installed. The shower cost me $9,500. The workmanship is poor. You can see where seams are poorly joined and caulk showing in spaces rather than finely and evenly seamed. The materials do look cheap especially a piece of trim they put up where there is a seam on the shower wall. When I interviewed a contractor to finish the bathroom. He asked if I wanted the shower replaced. I told him what happened and that I couldn't afford to replace it now but maybe next year. He said it was unfortunate I paid so much because one wall is bowed and the shower wall material didn't look like it could take a lot of use. I won't depend on Angi's List for referrels in the future."

Most outdoor kitchen pros finish the actual build in four to six weeks. That window covers framing, flooring, utilities, and appliance installation. Your timeline may stretch if the site needs extra prep, special-order materials, or you hit a busy season for contractors. Remember, planning, permits, and design meetings happen before the clock starts, so budget extra time for those steps.
In cold or wet climates, winterizing is worth the effort. Seal countertops, drain water lines, cover appliances, and ensure that cabinets and fixtures are constructed from weather-resistant materials, such as granite or stainless steel. Adding a roof or pergola helps protect surfaces from snow, rain, and UV rays. A few preventative steps each fall can keep repairs and frustration to a minimum come spring.
Yes—placing the kitchen against the house makes hooking up gas, water, and power simpler and cheaper. Keep anything that emits open flames—such as grills, griddles, and pizza ovens—at least 10 feet away from siding or other combustible materials. Check local fire codes before finalizing the layout so you stay safe and compliant.
You’ll need weather-rated outlets for appliances such as blenders, refrigerators, and lights. Ensure that every receptacle is GFCI-protected to shut off power quickly if moisture seeps in—a code requirement in most areas. A licensed electrician can run wiring, install the boxes, and add covers that stand up to sun and rain.
