"Suzanne and John were professional and very helpful--especially with coordinating with the company that did the testing and making suggestions about how to remediate the asbestos. Their crew did a great job removing the plaster with asbestos from an old home that we are going to tear down. They even finished a day early."

"I only had testing from them at this time just so we know the material we are working with or not working with. I am going to have this company come out and remove the asbestos at a later date. Then we can see their work in action."

"Provider did not service us, we had just called around for information and pricing. Provider seemed very knowledgable in their field, they offered additional related information about what were were asking. The only reason we did not choose provider to service us, is because they were in Sandy, we were in Ogden, and the price for the Radon test would have been too expensive for us with them having to drive all the way back up to Ogden to retrieve their Radon monitor. From our over-the-phone experience with them, however, we would be more inclined to use their service over the highest rated local service provider for this field of expertise. <br />"

"I found Barry through angie's list as the 2nd highest rated inspector. The top inspector was booked, as were other ones that i called. Barry was the only one that was able to fit me in with my short due diligence deadline. He was nice over the phone and answered all of my questions. <br /> I did have to call to confirm the appointment, even though he said he'd email me confirmation. A few days later i got a call by the receptionist saying the inspection was pushed back an hour, which was fine. Delays can happen, which is understandable. <br /> The home inspection was great and i feel like he covered everything. He worked efficiently and answered all my questions. <br /> There were a few minor errors on the report, like misspellings, wrong zip code for the house, etc. It wasn't anything major, just some things that a second person should look over to make it more professional. <br /> I also feel like the meth test was a bit more expensive than other providers, but i did get a discount on the whole inspection so that's okay. <br /> My suggestion for Barry would be to try to get a better web presence. Right now the only way to find him is through angie's list, or searching for his name or exact website address. Currently the "contact" button on his website is broken, and should be fixed or removed. <br /> All in all i would hire Barry again. <br />"

"Bill Cushing did an excellent job. He was punctual, professional and thorough. <br /> My original appointment was for earlier in the day. Due to conflicts the inspection was moved to later in the afternoon. His wife, Brooke, called and explained the situation and we had no problems rescheduling. Brooke is a pleasant person who keeps you informed and is a joy to work with. <br /> On the day of the inspection I asked for a radon test to be added to the inspection and Bill accommodated me on the spot! <br /> The billing was included right with the final report, which included pictures and well defined, easy to read reports. The report was delivered to me via email in a timely fashion. The cost of the inspection was very reasonable and I feel I received an excellent report for the money! <br /> I was very pleased with this company and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reliable and trustworthy home inspector! <br />"

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Layton, UT

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
