"Michael was great. He returned my phone call later that night, and came out the next day to take a look at what needed to be done. He was really easy to work with for scheduling, and very reasonable with his prices. Within a week or so he had his crew out to our house, and they went over the whole side with a fine tooth comb. They made sure the brick pointing was good on our chimney, too, and replaced the cap that was missing (that we hadn't even noticed was gone!). Lots of attention to detail, and if you hadn't known there was missing mortar and cracks, you'd never know there was any work done at all - which is how masonry repair is supposed to be. "This was a big project that got bigger as it went along.  The brick on the house had been neglected for years before we purchased the house and there was a lot of brick work that was needed.  After talking with a number of people, including my neighbors and other people that were familiar with brick pointing, I quickly learned that this is something that needs to be done right.  There is no doubt that Andy is an expert on repointing and on the use of lime mortars. <br /> One of the surprises that was encountered during the job was that the reason for the tilted slates along the side of the house was there was an enormous tree root that went along the side of the house.  Certainly a surprise and the crew removed the root and kept moving forward.  We also didn't expect that all of the slates would have been in poor condition which is why we had to replace them with brick.  Andy and his team were very good at thinking on their feet and making good decisions when problems would arise.   <br /> The brick pointing went very well and the guys were careful.  It is a messy job but they really tried to keep the mess to a minimum.  I wiped down the window sills and we had professional window cleaners come in after the job and virtually all of the residues are gone.  Also, the group of workers is very solid and trustworthy.  A pleasure to have working on the house. <br /> One issue did happen and that was I thought that all of the necessary brick work was quoted at the start of the job but Andy later found that there was a large problem spot that he did not see when quoting the job.  We worked this out but was not something that I had expected.   <br /> Andy closely inspected the job near the end and found some areas that needed improvement which they took care of and went above and beyond what was originally expected.  A lot of this had to do with minimizing efflorescence and matching the mortar between the old and the new.  Andy is a perfectionist which is great asset when doing historic renovations.  I know that Andy has already demonstrated his standing behind his work (needed a minor touch up at a missed spot on the chimney and was quickly corrected) which is reassuring.   <br /> Andy and his crew are definitely my go to guys for any project involving masonry.    <br /> <br />"

"Absolutely terrific! The work done was beyond expectation. We needed to add things to the list (mid way our water heater leaked all over our finished basement). Jim brought in a superb flooring company who did an outstanding job, removing the indoor outdoor carpet, installing a luxury vinyl flooring and stair carpeting, removing the bottom 2" of knotty pine paneling and replacing it with stained matching wooden baseboards. The room now looks and smells better than we ever imagined. The carpentry work that was needed to bring our shed, deck, kitchen and basement up to our desired standards was outstanding. Charlie, the carpenter is a mathematical genius. He was able to hang doors, fix flooring in the shed, recreate the front panels of the shed, and hang doors perfectly. We had painting, staining and water sealing done on the the deck as well as the shed and Adirondack chairs. We also had interior painting done. The outcome was wonderful but there were issues with the process. Although Patrick was an amazing painter, there were times when he came unprepared to do the job and I had to go out to buy supplies for the job. This was less than optimal. The electrical work was done to our satisfaction however we did have to have the electrician return as he put in the incorrect bulb in the outside flood light (a motion sensor bulb) and we needed one that would stay on all night. He also put in a fan in the attic that was to keep the heat and humidity down but it was left on the factory setting and was going off at inappropriate times. Again, this was rectified without issue. Last but certainly not least, we had the roof done in a matter of 1 day in the heat of the summer. The job was fabulous. There was a MINIMAL number of nails and pieces of roofing. They performed the job beautifully, working till 7PM till the job was done. We had a less than optimal experience in the past with another contractor in Buffalo NY. The roofing was not completed in a day and the tarp over the roof leaked rain causing the hardwood floors to buckle. The team JRL design brought were very sensitive to our issues and completed the job in a day. In summary, I give JRL Design an A plus for quality, timeliness and overall satisfaction of work done in the time of COVID."

"WOW! These guys were awesome. They quickly got me a very professional estimate. The overall price was similar to the other folks I contacted ($400-425), but their estimate included my back patio and front walkway, which the others did not. I liked that they evaluated what I really needed. They two guys who came out went above and beyond and also cleaned up some brick on one side of my house that wasn't in the estimate and just overall did a really thorough and amazing job. My house was literally green before and now looks perfect. I'd give them an A+ if I could."
