"The contractor contacted us through Angi's List and represented himself as honest, reliable, and communicative. We explained upfront that we had recently experienced serious issues with a broker and movers and were specifically seeking a professional contractor to avoid further problems. The contractor visited the property to review the scope of work. A second visit occurred with another individual who took measurements and advised on project timing. We entered into a contract with an agreed-upon completion timeframe of approximately 5 6 weeks. Shortly after work began, communication became inconsistent. The contractor represented that materials had been ordered for the project. We later confirmed this was not true. Despite repeated written requests, the contractor failed to provide clear updates, timelines, or proof that materials had been purchased. The contractual completion deadline passed with substantial work incomplete. Workers left the property and removed their tools, creating the appearance that the job had been abandoned. No clear explanation or written plan was provided regarding when or how work would resume. Worker Nonpayment Escalation. We were contacted directly by the contractor's workers, who stated they had not been paid and that a $2,000 check issued to them had bounced. This raised serious concerns about professionalism, reliability, and potential risk to us as homeowners. At no point did the contractor adequately address these concerns in writing. Concerns Regarding Specific Worker (Luis) Luis, who had previously performed electrical work, behaved in an unprofessional manner. We made clear that we do not consent to Luis performing any further work on our property in any capacity. Despite this, the contractor attempted to reassign him to complete the remaining work without our approval. Final Communication and Termination After a continued lack of response, misrepresentations regarding materials, missed deadlines, and worker nonpayment issues, trust was irreparably broken. We issued written notice terminating the contract, revoking access to the property, and requesting an accounting of payments, work completed, and materials purchased. All further communication was requested to be in writing only. Summary The contractor failed to meet contractual obligations, misrepresented material purchases, ignored written communications, and allowed the project to stall. Worker nonpayment and bounced checks created additional risk and instability. Due to these cumulative issues, termination of the contract was necessary and justified. "Ron Bell came on Jan. 6 and removed the old deck (not the frame). After that they failed to return. After numerous promises to complete the deck he finally provided what he claimed was an "invoice" for decking material. Turned out it was only an estimate and there material was never ordered. This occurred Mar. 22 and the estimate was written Mar. 15! He never ordered the material and we are currently finding another company to finish our deck. We have been living with NO DECK, only a frame for TWELVE WEEKS! It is a very dangerous situation as it is a second floor deck with exposed under decking and some electrical. I will be filing a law suit for the return of my 30% deposit."

"My experience with Liz was very poor. Early on she showed us a nice design and what we thought was a fair price. She represented herself as the designer and project manager. She brought in a GC that we were told she would manage. We gave Liz all of the specs for the appliances that we picked out. Once the renovations started we figured out very quickly that she did not factor in the specs on the appliances that we had ordered. On the install date of the appliances not one appliance could be installed because she did not have the space ready and to spec. She was not managing the contractors and she became very difficult to get to respond to questions or concerns. Thankfully the GC stepped up and took control of the situation. She also drew us a very nice built in refrigerator and wine fridge cabinet but what was installed was not what she had showed us. It was radically different. She refused to take responsibility for it so we released her and had to find another contractor to step in and finish it. Over all we had to pay much more than we expected, the project did not go smoothly at all, and we did not get the service or the result that we expected. This was not a small job, all in it was over $100K. I have never dealt with a less professional person."
