"Forget the rest, go with the BEST, TOM @ MODERN AIR. Tom, the owner of Modern Air, contacted me immediately after I put in a request with HomeAdvisor. I explained my problem to him & he suggested that we meet the next day at 11 AM. At EXACTLY 11 AM, he arrived (was shocked). He immediately went to work diagnosing my concerns. My main A/C unit was less than 2 years old, but my air handler was 10 years old (probably on its last legs, my opinion). I could not get the temperature below 80 degrees. He found that the freon was at 1/3 the recommended level. He recommended a coil cleaning before doing a leak test. I gave him the go ahead & he did a GR8 job, with a professional cleaning solution & tools. I had done a 'do-it-yourself' coil cleaning a couple of months ago & was astonished at the amount of 'crap' that came off the coils. I won't do that myself again. He then did a full leak test with 'state of the art' equipment on the main unit & handler & could only find a potentially small leak in the air handler coil. As he felt that the leak was VERY small, he suggested (& I agreed to) infusing a leak sealer/dye chaser into the system. He felt that this would hopefully resolve the issue & if not, at least identify where the leak would be located. AT NO TIME DURING HIS SERVICE CALL, DID HE TRY TO SELL/UPGRADE me on a new air handler or anything else for that matter (VERY big surprise). He also corrected some wiring issues with the water evacuation pump & reprogrammed the thermostat, both for FREE (I had personally done a poor job installing a new evacuation pump last year). He proceeded to replenish the Freon to the correct levels. He then thoroughly cleaned up any mess that was created during his coil cleaning & other work done. We sat down to review exactly what he had done & the related the material & labor cost of the service call. I was blown away, not only by his professionalism & conscientious service, but also the reasonable cost. Unlike many other service persons that I have dealt with in the past, he definitely wasn't trying to rush the job to get to his next appointment or upsell me on replacing something that wasn't needed. Tom really knows the "long term future" value of customer service & professionalism. BOTTOM LINE, it has been 10 days since his service call & I am sitting in my den with a sweater on, its 92 degrees outside & my wife is talking to me again. Would I call him again for annual maintenance or service? Would I have him replace the air handler when the time came? WITHOUT HESITATION!!!, he is in my phone's speed dial. Damon R. in Lar"
