"Jaron was prompt, knowledgeable and professional, while quoting a fair price. We hired him to install french drains, to keep water out of our basement and plan on hiring him for other excavation jobs as well."

"The person dumping the gravel made a mistake and spilled a pile of gravel. He apologized profusely and said his son would be out to spread it. His son shows up and a little while later knocks on my door; the neighbor's dog is "attacking" him and jumping on him hindering his efforts and he does not like dogs. My neighbor is at work so the son asks me if I am friendly with the dog, which I am, so he asks me to occupy the dog while he finishes up because "it won't take much longer" I just started my lunch break so I went down and entertained my neighbor's dog for what ended up being nearly an hour. I was working from home so I had to work 45 minutes longer because of it."

"Excellent, went above and beyond expected. My back yard was a mess: uneven, poorly built fence, lots of debris, water pooling, cracked uneven sidewalk. Patio is beautiful, very helpful in choosing pavers. But he went above the expected and used to extra dirt to even the back yard, lifted the uneven sidewalk, adjusted the fence and even put in a drain to prevent erosion to complete the job. Very professional. Would recommend."

"After a delay in response in the Message Center, I was able to make contact and order 5 yards of mulch. Darren has since called an apologize for the miscommunication ((through no fault of their own--Angie's List is updating their website).

I called on a Wednesday and it was delivered on that Saturday, exactly where I asked them to drop it. The driver even showed consideration for the neighbor's pine tree that was hanging over where the bed of the truck would be raised.

If you are reading this review, I would suggest either being patient or being proactive with making contact until Angie's List works out all of the bugs with the Message Center as it happened with the Gutter Cleaning company I tried to reach as well."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Middletown, IN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
