"I was very pleased with the carpentry work Kurt did in the wood siding of my house. He replaced a whole section of cedar siding and replace various rotting siding. He installed a frieze board and fixed some rotten siding on a dormer along with other various siding and window trims work The quality of work was excellent and very professional Good quality craftmanship and high work ethics coupled with good communication and very friendly. He provides good advise on what to do and always putting the customer first. He is one of the best carpentry contractor and I definitely recommend him and will call him again for all my future carpentry siding work."

"CT Home Improvement LLC is a fantastic company for all your home improvement needs. They’ve done an excellent job on my home—installing new flooring, a kitchen, ceilings, insulation, backsplash, and plumbing. Their work is high-quality, and the team is professional and reliable. Best of all, their pricing is fair and transparent. They completed the entire project on time and stayed on schedule. Their customer service was outstanding—always responsive, respectful, and willing to answer all my questions. I highly recommend them!"

"Workers dropped construction trailer yesterday afternoon & began work this AM. Sergei (owner) stopped by and explained minor changes. Workers very professional & courteous. Bad weather pushed timetable back by a couple of weeks. However, Sergei stayed in touch by phone & stopped by with his framer to go over measurements. So far we are very pleased. Sergei mismeasured opening for storm door which is going to require a custom made door. He explained that he would absorb the additional cost. I admire his honesty. Project completed a few days ago except for storm door. Good job, workers cleaned up everything. Sergei stopped by to be sure we are satisfied & accepted partial payment until custom storm door is here & installed. We also had an issue with during heavy rain we had water leaking into the soffet which they repaired with a j channel. I would definitely use Alliance again for any outside projects or repairs."

"After a call in late March (found on Angies List), he visited our house in early April.   A few weeks later we received a proposal for a full roof replacement and siding repair work.   I was impressed with him - he was professional and able to answer my questions effectively.   On May 9th I signed a contract for $15,000 worth of work & materials and gave him 10% deposit check.   I was upfront about being flexible with the timing of the job... essentially I wanted the work done by mid Sept to give me time to give me ample time to get the siding painted prior to cold weather and feel more comfortable with having an ice-dam resistant roof before winter.   This was a fairly straightforward job... its a 1960's colonial so no funky roof lines and the siding job (wood) was a simple tear-off and replace on one side, with some repair on another, and two window installations on the sides where work was being done.  I had already purchased the windows and I provided him an itemized list of materials for the siding job (specs and quantities).  To put this in context, he told me it would take a work week to do the job(s).   He was upfront in mentioning that he had a vacation planned for July and wasn't sure whether work would start before or after his vacation.  So, as expected, things were fairly quiet for a May and June.   I sent two emails, one in May and one in June, just to calibrate on timing.   All indications were that work would start following his vacation; which meant mid-late July, or maybe early August.   I sent an email on 7/10 and heard back on 7/20.... this is when he cancelled the job.   Three months after signing the proposal.   He admitted that when he took the job he planned to do it within two months.   He also cited several reasons for this decision - changes in labor availability, needing to take several weeks off for personal reasons, and that this project would take him too long and wouldn't be profitable (presumably due to labor availability).   He was polite about this but I definitely got burned... thankful that I got my deposit back but I did lose four months calendar time and need to start my search from scratch.

"I was very please with the work that was done. Mr. Mazza was on time, professional and completed his work in a timely fashion. I especially liked the stain that Mr. Mazza put on the deck. It came out exactly how we planned. I would definitely recommend Mr. Mazza’s services to other people who are looking for painting or other work to be done at their homes."

"Here's my story. I built most of my home and roofed or reroofed it over the last 30 years. It was time to the entire house once more. I've reached the point where I had no interest in hauling shingles up a ladder on my "free" time. Enter Angieslist. I contacted some 8 roofers or roofing companies with reviews with "A" ratings. Yes I read the reviews. Some sent sales people to sell me on the materials. Some came to look it over. Few actually measured. Dave calls and says he can stop by a Sunday. Perfect. He's the only guy who actually goes up on my roof. I asked all the others. Not one felt the need to. Hmmm. I want to show them my problem areas. I did tell them I built a large part of my house. Nope they'll spitball it. I'm pretty picky about the work I have done. [Engineer by trade]. I also want the guy I talking with to be on site while the work is done. Sending me a salesman is not what I want. I don't care about warranties. Like I'm going to get into a lawsuit with GAF. Use quality, name brand materials and I'm good. I also don't need some college kid or other on my home. So long story short I hire Dave. He does everything and more. On time. Professional. Cleans up every day. I liked him so much that some siding needed replacement and he came back and did that between other jobs. My only gripe is that he's so popular [with good reason] that I had to wait a couple months. Wish he installed driveways..."

"Very unprofessional. The painter brought his dog and put it in a crate in the middle of my dining room. Let our dog out with his. Used my washing machine without my permission because his dog peed on his drop cloth. My husband works third shift and goes to bed early at 7:30 pm. They were aware of this. On a few occasions they were at our house until 8:30 pm. Used my microwave at 7 pm to heat up his dinner without my permission and proceeded to eat while my husband needed to go to bed. Several times to fix my storm door appropriately. First put it on backward and I demanded they turn it around. Tons of excuses for everything.Paint splattered on my couch, microwave, trash can, door knobs. The owner was willing to please the customer but the workers were not. Left all their tools and paint cans throughout my house on a daily basis. No complaints about the roofers

"I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and Brad Green of Colonial Restorations. We have lived in our antique house for 16 years now, and like most old homes, some of its previous repairs were good, some not so good. Tom Green worked on this house for its previous owners, and his work was, by far, the best in the house. So, we continued to use Colonial - Tom, then Tom and Brad - as we learned the ropes about caring for an old house - our first house, old or new. Over the years, they have replaced sills and posts and beams, and rebuilt parts of our loose stone foundation. Most recently, they replaced the last original posts in our basement, (one of which was a tree trunk still with bark on it), including pouring new custom footings, in advance of our finally cementing the dirt floor. The work here is never easy - nothing is level, nothing is square - but the Greens' end result has always been beautiful - strong and made to last. Their prices are fair and without hidden costs....maybe not the lowest bid you might get, but you know it's a real bid that they will stand behind. They triage projects for us, giving us an idea of what other items will likely need attention in the next few years. We're not done with this house yet....we've never won the lottery, and there's always another repair..... and plan to use them again soon. I feel confident knowing that the next owners of this house, whoever they might be, will see the quality of the work and know that we cared enough to have the right people help us with the ongoing repair and maintenance of a 275+ year old house. I am a real person, a real customer, with no ties to the company, and was more than happy to write this review."

"Overall satisfied with Anderson and team. They were always on time and finished the painting job as stated in the contract. Anderson is very prompt in responding to the queries (either via voice, text or email) and very accommodating to your project requirements. Our painting project (basement, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and stairway area) costed about $2800 and Anderson took care of all the raw materials. Anderson and team could do little better on wiping the paint particles and residues upon completion of the project (or on a daily basis). I would highly recommend Anderson and team for a painting project."

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in Milldale, CT

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
