It was a pretty big job so the next day they came back and finished the outside work. I had a recent back injury so one of the guys came in and installed 3 window treatments for me. The windows are so nice that I just go from room to room and look at them. Then I open and close the windows and look at them again. They slide and lock into place so easy. "We were initially contacted by a marketer going door to door and arranged a meeting to get price estimates for new vinyl siding and seamless gutters. This person indicated that we might get better pricing if we agreed to some sort of endorsement or posting in front of the house. We have never contracted anyone to complete this type of work before so we were interested in an estimate even though our current siding is in good shape yet. Our gutters do need to be replaced, however. Another rep contacted us a few days before the meeting to make sure we still wanted to proceed. Two people arrived about 10 minutes earlier than planned, one a trainee. This actually worked out well since they used the time to measure the house, and it allowed me time to return home for the meeting. The representative was from the Omaha NE area versus Sioux Falls SD. The rep was very personable and knowledgeable although the sales pitch was a bit on the aggressive side. The siding quality appeared to be good, all work would be completed by company personnel, and the siding came with a transferable (one new owner), life-time guarantee. Ultimately, we didn't like the way the vinyl channels would stick out from the door and window frames and the pricing was much higher than expected. After thoroughly explaining the qualities of the siding, the rep started the discussion of pricing by providing us a "national average" for a similar sized house although the assumptions and basis for this average was never explained. Next, the rep provided a "fair market value" (FMV) of what the company would normally charge. We were then offered a discounted price that was only good the day of our meeting. This was over 19% less than the company's normal pricing, or FMV, and included siding, gutters and a work-around for door and window trims. Another caveat was this price could only be offered by this particular rep. The presentation was well scripted and reminded me somewhat of a time-share sales pitch. We never expected a decision would have to be made immediately and informed the rep that we needed additional time to research other products and contractors. Ultimately, the rep shot us the best "deal" which was 31.5% less than the company's FMV. Again, this was only good if we made an immediate decision. I felt the best deal was still about 25% higher then what we would pay a local contractor based on some recent siding work completed for a family member. When we asked about the discount for endorsing or marketing the work on our house, the rep indicated this is simply not done. Pictures of other siding projects completed by the company were provided. We asked if we could visit other houses in the area with the vinyl siding, but this is not permitted due to company policy and privacy issues. The rep indicated references could be set up, if needed. We also asked for an estimate for just the gutters but this was about 2-3 times what I expected to pay for a similar product. Before leaving, the rep informed us we would have another three days to make a decision as long as we contacted the rep before leaving the Sioux Falls area. On the positive side, my wife and I enjoyed the rep who turned out to be a veteran from the Vietnam war, and would actually enjoy spending personal time with the rep if the opportunity ever arose."

"October, 2012--John and his crew winterized my garage and turned the rafter section into a storage area complete with drop-down steps. The work was done timely and accurately. For what they did, I felt we would have been charged more by any number of other contractors, many of whom would not have done the work nearly as well. The results were fantastic. We had a normal winter, and where water would have frozen before, I now had a workspace that was as toasty as our TV room. It made my home-based business flow much smoother. I should also mention that they worked around the mess we had in our garage with great efficiency. <br /> End of May-August, 2011--This is when we were first introduced to John. I had a roofing project started by someone else who left the roof bare except for the tar paper. 1-inch rains had been occurring about 3 times a week through May and a good storm with wind would have removed the paper and destroyed the roof (we didn't know an 18-month drought was just beginning, but that's another story). When I asked a friend, they told me about John. I called him on a Sunday and pleaded my case. He had a number of other jobs that needed to be started, but because I was in a serious predicament and it wouldn't hurt any of his current customers to have him away for a day, he came by on Monday and finished the roofing. We have never seen anything done so quickly and accurately. In one day, one man installed a beautiful roof that still looks brand new. Since the drought seems to have ended, we've had it tested by a few rains and no moisture has gotten through. In spite of the fact that he could have charged me a confiscatory rate, he actually charged me less than I thought it would have been. <br /> Later that summer, John did an excellent job at replacing the rotted board that border the roof along the side of the garage with a white plastic board that perfectly matched the paint. He then made us a set of plastic gables that will last forever for the top of our house. They look fantastic and our occasional bat and mouse visits were eliminated (mice were climbing the vines). <br /> Summer 2012--My wife is a great gardener and has always wanted window flower boxes. John fabricated some out of a plastic the likes of which he'd used on the gables, however, they were supported with some steel frames that were bolted into the brick of the house. A grown man (maybe 2) could stand on them without them falling or tearing away and more importantly, my wife and all the neighbors absolutely love them. The cost of these was about what we'd have paid for some of the nice prefabs, which are of no better quality than John's and we still would have had to install them ourselves. <br /> SUMMARY: In John, we feel we have finally found our one go-to contractor who can make or fix just about anything that can be made or fixed.
