"David was very prompt in calling me and completed the work a day after I contacted him. He showed up to my house during the promised time. I had 2 large trees taken down, 1 stump ground, and other various trees trimmed and all the work was very well done. I especially appreciated the care they took in ensuring that the work did not damage other landscaping or my home. David completed the stump grinding a few days after the initial work and he again showed up exactly on time and the work was completed quickly. I did not shop around for best price as the price quoted was fair for the scope of work based on my prior experience with tree services. I would recommend using this service and I plan to use them again for future projects."

"Nick and his crew were AMAZING! They were professional, polite, and clean. Nick was insightful and instantly came up with a concept design and plan. They installed a yard drainage system, created a front walkway with pavers and steps, regraded our whole property, added mulch beds, added top soil and seeded with hay for a new lawn. They worked fast and had the entire project finished in a week’s time. Highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Was struggling to find a reliable guy to do some paver work as well as a retaining wall for my backyard for the summer. I was recommended Art to come by. He was able to get a move on things quick. He had incredible attention to detail and was in constant communication with me. Gave some great advice about water drainage with the new patio and way to prevent stagnation of water. He also gave great advice on maintaining the area to ensure the longevity of the project. Overall great job and looking forward to having him do my front walkway as well!"

"Maurizio was first to give us a quote which was competitive. He is a professional and a hard worker. He did our 1200 sq feet backyard patio leveled the land and now our backyard looks like an oasis. He also installed steps, two small retaining walls and pool coping. Any problem was dealt in a professional and timely manner. I would recommend Maurizio to anybody who is doing the patio pavers."

"I have an approximately 1100 sq ft driveway that had a couple of stress cracks that needed to be filled and sealed. Called Sealpro after seeing their rating on Angie's list and had them come over for an estimate. Today they filled and sealed my drive and it looks like new. Great job! <br />"

"As usual they did the job without having to wait too long for them to come out. I've used them a number of times in the past from cutting down trees to trimming shrubs. They always do a good job and are reasonably priced."

"We purchased a house that was 20 years old. We needed our concrete walkway repaired, as it sank over a period of several years, leaving the distance between steps as a safety hazard. Brian and his crew assessed the situation and did an amazing job. Besides replacing the entire concrete walkway, they also installed a railing. They did another railing in the back of the house and installed a new mailbox as well. 2 days in and we've had many compliments on both the mailbox and walkway. Another neighbor has already asked if HMD is willing to do their mailbox. No job to small (or big, as I believe they're used to doing much larger jobs in the metro area). They also kept our property and surrounding area clean. They loaded equipment and materials in and out, and it was a "busy site" for a couple of days, but when they cleaned up, you would never know they were there, except for the quality craftsmanship they left behind. The front of our house looks better than ever."

"Ray is a very busy man but once you work with him you understand why.  We had to wait approximately 2 months for him to get to us but his work was well worth the wait.   He is very conscientious about his work and instills that work ethic in his team members.  He exercised forethought and took pride in preparing for all the different phases of the driveway and the pad.  He even made it his business to constantly watch the weather report, to ensure that it wouldn't rain at the time when cement had just been poured,  as that would mess up the whole project.  We had to extend the project a couple days because of the rain.  <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Once the cement was poured, Ray actually did the final smoothing of the cement himself.  It was like watching an artisan, as he worked.  <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Yes, in order to get started, we had to wait longer than previously anticipated.  However,  we felt  from our initial conversation with Ray, that he was a person who would treat people with the same professionalism and respect that he would expect himself.  We weren't mistaken.  I will offer an example of what I am saying.   Ray had initially scheduled our job to start somewhere around the middle of Sept.  Unfortunately, around the middle of August we were hit with extenuating circumstances that required the completion of our job as soon as humanly possible.  When I explained this challenge to Ray,  he worked things out in a way that got him here a couple weeks earlier.  He was under no obligation to do this but he did and it was greatly appreciated. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> If you are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and tries to satisfy his customers to the best of his ability, then I would definitely consider Culligan Concrete & Masonry.   As long as you don't require that the work is done immediately, you will be pleased that you waited. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Thank you Ray."

"The interaction with "Jim" was excellent for the initial estimate. There was good follow up. Good communication throughout. They coordinated the installation to fit my schedule. The work was done with great precision and neatly. There was little evidence that they had disturbed any plants or shrubs in doing the exterior finish work. All old windows were removed. The staff reviewed the method to service the windows."

"<p>Found several high rated residential construction and roofing contractors through Angie's list. Called three different providers in the area to give estimates for replacement of our aged roof and possibly replace our skylight which was starting to leak. Matthew Miglin responded promptly by E-mail, phone and through messages on Angie's list. Matthew came out and surveyed our job and quickly provided a very detailed estimate which he E-mailed to us. After our review and some questions we decided to use Matthew and Chapelwood Home Services to replace our entire roof and the old leaking skylight. His estimate was much more in line with our budget than the other estimates we received for the work. This was great because our home was located just slightly out of Chapelwood's service area and so Matthew was going beyond his normal service area because we were Angie's list members. After signing our agreement and picking out the colors, Matthew fit us into his work schedule within a week. Wow. He estimated the work would take several days to complete. Matthew and his team showed up on time as scheduled and completely covered anything that could be damaged outside of the house during the removal of the old roof. The materials were what we wanted and the colors matched as expected. His crew was polite and they worked carefully. The finished job was great, everything was completed as expected, and they finished the entire job in one day ahead of schedule. Matthew was very careful and the clean up and removal of the debris was thorough. he even offered to replace a downspout that I damaged earlier this year with snow removal. We of course said that it was not their fault. They went around the entire property with a roller magnet to pick up all the nails that may have slipped through their cover material. We highly recommend Chapelwood Home Services and would definitely use Matthew again for future projects on our home. Thank you Matthew!</p>"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Morris Plains, NJ

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
