"Felix was quick to come out for an assessment and gave us a detailed email bid with picture diagram which I found extremely helpful. They had built me gravel shed pad, for our 8x12 shed, on our sloping back yard and a clean-up on the side of our house with gravel installation. They were very professional and easy to work with from start to finish. The shed company appreciated the shed pad and said it was done very well."

"I contacted Smaller Deliveries to deliver 2 different sizes of gravel so I could rebase my driveway and add a smaller layer. This is the first time I've done a project like this. Mark was always responsive with phone calls. The first day, William brought the larger rock and gave me a helpful bit of pro advice which was spot on. He was able to do a great job spreading gravel with the truck. My driveway is circular and hilly. I had 2 loads and he made our day much less labor intensive. The second day, Mark brought the smaller rock, and also was an artist with his ability to get much of the gravel spread along the driveway. Both days were much less work and now I have a very nice gravel driveway. As a side note, I rented a plate compacter, and that is such a game changer for the end product. I will use Smaller Deliveries for future projects, they are friendly and provide great service."

"We checked around a few granite businesses that were vague on pricing or did not respond to questions. We went into Pro Granite and immediately appreciated the customer service and well organized showroom. Anna was very helpful showing us around and upfront about pricing, she even gave us a printout of our project with the costs of different pieces of granite. Very reasonably priced! Less than the big box stores. We decided on one kind and they pulled out those slabs for us to select the exact one we wanted. Excellent communication and punctuality from the templating appointment to the installation, always arriving about 5 minutes early in fact. Vinnie and Ivan did a meticulous job, their dedication to their craft shows through in the finished project. Recommend 100%."

"Sia and his crew did a stellar job on my new concrete driveway conversion from gravel and block planter wall in front of the house! After a prompt free estimate and due diligence, I found Step Up's estimate to be the most competitive and fairly priced. They were always very communicative and promptly showed up when they said they would everyday. Throughout the whole process, they kept the work area clean during the day and at the end of the day before leaving. In the end, both the concrete driveway and block wall turned out great, couldn't be happier with their work!"

"Creative responded to an email query by phone. Dave came to inspect the project site the next day and gave me a quote on the spot. We checked a couple of sample walls he pointed us to and made the deal quickly (we had several quotes from other builders). Dave showed up the day before the project started and described how the work would be carried out. The crew showed up the next day, completed the demolition and site preparation and started building the walls. They had exactly the right equipment and the right team of people on site when needed. Construction was completed slightly ahead of the agreed schedule (5 days) and on budget. The quality of the walls is outstanding. Dave is an artist at laying stone, and at understanding what we were trying to accomplish and making our vision a reality. His inclusion of "scamper steps" and "ponder stones" as part of the finished walls were indications of his experience, design craft, and attention to detail that we really appreciated. We couldn't have imagined a better experience."

"Water used to flow out of our field, down our driveway and next to the house during the rainy winter months. Dillon and team came out to install a French drain the length of the drive and a drain pipe under it to the other side, where the water would naturally flow down the other field to the creek. Even though the outflow drain is higher than the lowest point of the drive's French drain, Dillon knew exactly how to install the pipes. Dillon was extremely knowledgeable, transparent in fair costs and time, excellent with communication, and his crew was quick, nice and amazingly skilled with a backhoe. Since the rains started up, our constant water flow is now wonderfully pouring out the pipe exit and away from the driveway and house. Absolutely worth it and I highly recommend In Depth Excavation."

"We are so pleased with our landscape work designed and installed by Reynolds Landscaping. Communication was excellent, and the whole process from design to installation was efficient and well done. We had a big renovation to remove our overgrown landscaping, and now the house looks so much better. We have had lots of compliments from the neighbors."

"Great experiences each time I've used this company. It's really, really hard to get good people to do quality work in Seattle, and Steve Bodine is one of those people. He employs great workers, treats them well and holds on to them for years. He personally is a genuinely decent and nice guy as well. He has years and years of experience and I would trust him with all my drainage needs (that's saying something in Seattle). Bodine also did a fantastic job with my concrete driveway and walkways. I first hired Bodine almost 3 years ago to redirect my downspouts to a new drain field in my back yard. His crew did an amazing job. I was so pleased, I hired them to do some concrete work in my basement. Again, excellent work. Based on that, I then hired them to pour a new concrete driveway and walkway. Again, an incredible job. They really care about getting it right. Bodine does virtually all of their work based on referrals... and they are busy. But if you have a problem, they will take care of it immediately and other times, you just have to be a little patient knowing they're busy taking care of someone else's problems. It works both ways. They were very patient with me when I had to change dates to have my driveway poured due to other work going on at my house. I also want to mention Jim Cuba and Manny, who worked on my most recent project and were terrific."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Mountlake Terrace, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
