"We hired Jamil for our final renovation project - installation of an aluminum fence I had ordered online. I wish we would have found him before I made that order bc I know he would have been able to fabricate a much better fence. Nonetheless, he and his team did a great job installing. It was so wonderful to find a polite, punctual, professional contractor for the final project of our very long renovation. His pricing was fair, and it meant a lot that he showed up when he said he would, since we really wanted to get the project done. I would highly recommend this company for fencing needs"

Customers say: Quality work

"The professional arrived to come to talk to me and give me an estimate. When he knocked on the door, he had already took the railing off and started the work. The work was good and the price was reasonable. I would have preferred to have a conversation with him first before he started the job."

"When Frank delivered my cabinet doors and drawers all I could say was "WOW". They came out amazing. My thirty year old cabinets look brand new! I keep getting raves from family and friends who have stopped by. Frank was easy to work with. Arrived on time for our first appointment, went over everything with me and answered my questions. He answered the phone whenever I called him, and responded to emails promptly. I never felt ignored or forgotten. I would definitely not hesitate to use The Refinishing Company again."

"I texted Notjusthandymen.Com, they answered promptly, told me who would be coming to do job and then that person, Jesse called and setup a time to come in. He came and did the entire job on the very day of my first contact with them!

Jesse installed 2 window air conditioners and also went to the store to pick one up for me since I couldn't. He did an excellent, thorough job. He was on time and a very nice man. He worked hard, made sure the jobs were done properly and cleaned up.  He will definitely be the first person I call the next time I need a job done around the home. Highly recommended!!!!

FAQs for steel beams (structural) service projects in New-York, NY

A steel beam weighs six to 12 pounds per linear foot, depending on its size and shape. That means a 10-foot beam rated at 10 pounds per foot tips the scales at 100 pounds. Commercial projects often use much larger members—some top 50 pounds per foot—so crews may need lifts or cranes to maneuver them safely into place.

On a new build, crews can slide a beam into an open frame in just a few hours. Replacing a beam inside a finished home takes longer—plan on two to three days—to shore up the structure, remove finishes, and work around plumbing or wiring. Your structural engineer will outline the steps, and you may want to stay elsewhere while the temporary supports are in place.

Yes—as long as a structural engineer signs off, swapping a load-bearing wall for a beam is a safe upgrade. A steel I-beam offers the best strength-to-size ratio and meets local codes with room to spare. Your engineer will calculate the load, specify the beam, and verify that the surrounding framing can handle the new setup.

Watch for rot, rust, cracks, or sagging—all red flags that a support beam needs attention. Water stains, uneven floors, or doors that stick can also point to trouble. If you notice any of these issues, call a structural engineer right away. Catching the problem early protects your home and can keep the repair bill from ballooning.
