"Vernon responded immediately (in the evening) to the Home Advisor inquiry and he was available for lead paint testing and provided a report quickly for a city building permit. I hired him again for follow-up asbestos testing. I am thankful for his responsiveness (the permit process has been challenging) and feel confident that he is advising me on what is needed and not creating extra or unneeded work. Highly recommend."

"I write this review not only as a home owner but with the knowledge of having been a Connecticut home improvement contractor myself for many years when I was younger. Celestin came out and quoted us to remove an old floor that contained asbestos. His price was reasonable and he was completely professional. We did not have the ability to print and sign the contract once it was emailed to us so he took the time to drive from Trumbull to Manchester a second time to bring us a hard copy of the contract to sign. The next day he again made the long trip to the home to do the job, much earlier than we had anticipated which was a God send for our needs. In our case he was able to get the job done in a completely professional manner in about six hours. We could not have chosen a better company to do business with. He sealed off all the points of entry as well as all the interior walls and cabinets and used a ventilation system to completely control the air flow into and out of the work area during the process. We paid him when the job was complete and would absolutely use him again and highly recommend American Environmental Services for Asbestos removal. He does what he says and is on time and as promised. Great contractor and person."

"It was frustrating. I bought the service because of an Angie's List promotion. When I received the package I opened it and saw what it was and set it aside. I was very busy and planned to get to it in a few days. I had to go out of town for a few days, then I had a ridiculous string of bad luck with multiple car breakdowns. I have a neuromuscular disease so everything I do is very difficult and exhausting. With so much happening, I forgot about the test kit. Then after a couple weeks I get a call from Mold Lab asking about the kit saying it was past the due back date and they were going to charge me $25 a day late fee on the pump. I was stunned! I opened the box and there was nothing inside saying it was due by a certain time. I re-read the Angie's List ad and there was nothing there either. The lady was very rude and kept interrupting me saying the same things over and over like maybe I would finally understand if she kept repeating it. I understood the first time. She wouldn't listen to understand I didn't know about the deadline but now that I was made aware of it I would do the testing that day and ship it that day. What else could I do? That wasn't good enough she had to repeat her lecture a few more times. After sending it in I was told I would receive a text when it was complete and I would receive an email with results within a few days. After a month I called and the same lady answered. She claimed to have sent an email, but didn't know the date and told me to check my junk mail folder. I checked everywhere but had no record of it. I explained I hadn't received the text either, she had no response for that. So she sent an email while we were on the phone and I received it immediately. I printed out the results but without the proper training or experience in laboratory sciences it was basically useless."

"We are in the process of residing our home with vinyl siding and wanted to have the old 1940's asbestos siding removed to afford the opportunity to insulate our circa 1830's house.  We researched licensed asbestos abatement contractors on the CT.gov website and emailed about a dozen located in Northern CT / Western MA.  Danny was very fast to respond and we discussed the project.  He was able to quote on the project from a photo I emailed and using Google Maps.  The company provided copies of their licenses, workers comp, and customer testimonials.  They were significantly less expensive than others.  Danny explained that the removal would only take 1 day as they crew according to the job.  We set a date about a month in advance to coincide with our vinyl siding contractor. The team of 8 showed up on time as scheduled and by mid afternoon had completed the project.  The siding was bagged according to State regulations, the crew all wore protective "bio-hazard' suits with respirators. They hauled 3 truck loads of siding away.  The house had been sealed prior to start of the removal to prevent and fibers from intrusion. Everything was cleaned up and removed - not even a spec of tile was in the bushes around the side of the house. We will receive a certificate/documentation once the materials are disposed off from the company's own containers.   This was an excellent experience.  The invoice was as per the quote. If you need asbestos siding removal, this is the company to go with based on our experience."

"Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories, Inc. sent a package with 2 vials and instructions for collecting the samples.  I collected the samples as instructed, completed a questionnaire, and returned the sample vials as instructed.  A week or two later they sent the analysis.  Everything went as expected.  There were no problems. <br />"

"I explained to Jeff that I had bought a new condo, which was new construction, and I had concerns that the HVAC was not properly working and I wasn't getting enough clean air. Jeff was able to come the very next day. He is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. He conducted many tests - toxic gas levels, dust, mold, dander, etc. After about 30 minutes of testing, he identified I had a slow gas leak in my gas fireplace, which apparently had not been installed right. He stayed with me while the gas company came to remedy the situation. I am so grateful for him or I would never have known about the leak, which was probably contributing to health issues I was having. He also was able to turn around the other lab results incredibly quickly. Several others in my building have since hired him. Can't recommend him enough."

"The initial visit was fine. The company never came back to pick up the RADON test which they were supposed to retrieve and mail in for results was never retrieved. Called several times to try and remedy this failure to complete service; I am still waiting. I received report in a timely manner but sent questions via email and they were never answered. Overall not I am not a happy customer. Would not recommend plenty of options go somewhere else."

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in New Britain, CT

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
