"Great job repairing an external basement door from years of water damage. Eric did a fantastic job and completed it in one day. I highly recommend Cransten Handyman."

"The before and after of my bathroom is night and day. Almost nearly complete but already a huge difference in home quility and comfort. Was priced in a range I could afford and even fixed other problems that weren't seen prior without bleeding my wallet, so I'm pretty happy."

"The Moore brothers were great. They satisfied my Home Owners' Association with a detailed proposal within an hour of inspecting the job. They itemized and described the work, which included cleaning off the mold, replacing insulation, repairing joists, encapsulating the crawlspace, and creating a French Drain on the exterior of my unit to redirect the rain. They also set up my dehumidifier in the space with a wireless meter I can read from inside . Their price was in line and they did everything they promised in good order, good humor, and respect. Three other companies bid and were not even close... in promptness, plan, OR price. I highly recommend Jon and Danny Moore."

"I saw this Angie's List deal and assumed that it would pay for the tree removal. So I bought the deal for my daughter. A man from Dynamic Services went to my daughter's house last week and gave her a quote for the tree to be cut down, cut up and hauled away. The quote was over a thousand dollars! Therefore we obtained other quotes from other providers to do the same work. Two other companies gave a lower quote and therefore my daughter is going to hire the company that she can afford instead of Dynamic Services. Please give me a refund because we cannot use this "Deal"."

"What they did was good. The gentleman that installed the switches did not check the (2) 2-way switches before he left and I found that one switch would lock the other from turning on. They did have someone come back out and make the repair. My only complaint would be that they put the dimmer switches in inconvenient locations, as opposed to where I requested them to be installed."

"Better than I could have hoped. I sent Mike an email on Saturday, June 27 and later than day he replied by text message. He actually came out on Sunday to get the requirements from me and completed the work on Tuesday and 1/2 day Wednesday. Considering the level of effort required to diagnose the issue and come up with the proper solution, I couldn't be happier. Mike and his team provide first rate work, fast, high quality and professional work. If you need handyman work, look no further. Mike will get it done right the first time, fast and reasonably priced. - Lou, Huntersville, NC"

"We used Chris Havey and FCR for the first time in late 2012, to remodel a large rec room above our 3-car garage. It included a custom built-in cabinet for the entertainment center, refinishing of existing cabinets, and installation of new flooring. We were very pleased with the timing, cost, and professionalism. We used them again this spring to gut and remodel two bathrooms (including custom-built vanities and beautiful faux-marble showers with glass enclosures), and to remodel/reconfigure a bedroom and closet spaces. Again, we were very happy with the results, and would not hesitate to recommend Chris and his team. In fact, we are already planning our next project.

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in New London, NC

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
