"The entire process went extremely well. The estimate was very clear about the scope of work, the crew was professional, on time and carefully about reducing disruption/mess and our basement is dry, as promised. They even went above and beyond and fixed a downspout outside so water would flow away from the house. Once the job was finished, the company rep came out to walk through with us and answer any questions. I have no doubt that if a problem did arise, they'd fix it."

"Austin Wells & Peter Dang were professional, informative and very hard working. Their attention to detail was fantastic! There was a wait to get the work done as there are not many companies in our area that can provide this service. The foundation is raised and we no longer have a gap that was creating moisture."

"Bobby and the Fortress Techs were very professional, considerate, and thorough. The difference we feel from the crawl space insulation from before to after is amazing. Within just a day or two that musty smell in the house that was coming from the crawl space was gone! Bobby kept us informed throughout the entire process and finished the project on time. I would highly recommend Fortress Foundations Solutions to everyone; we were extremely satisfied with the outcome and the high quality customer service we received."

"The crew completed a concrete walkway for us. Luke gave us a very fair estimate, and scheduled the job the same week. The project was completed quickly and the team communicated well throughout the process. Would definitely use their company again."

"I am a Real Estate investor in Southern Maryland. I needed the foundation on a property evaluated. I called Mr. Malmquist to inquire about using his services since his reviews were so positive. My property is a bit out of his coverage area. However, he was kind enough to offer to give me his thoughts on any pictures of the foundation I had. I forwarded him my pictures, and as promised, he called and provided me with his thoughts. He was professional, and most importantly he was sincere. He did not shy away from providing his professional opinion even though it probably was not what I wanted to hear (from the perspective of making this deal happen). I great appreciated his candor though. And when I do have a job requiring a structural engineer, in his area, he will be the first person I call."

"Floodbusters did an excellent job sealing the water out of our basement. They installed a sump pump and drainage system which they check annually. We were very happy with their service. Employees were polite and knowledgable. We highly recommend them."

"Excellent. Mike came out and drafted several options for the walkway, we ended up changing the direction of the walkway and replaced the ugly concrete that was there with a beautiful brick and flagstone path. Also, I had been having issues with people cutting the corner and driving on the lawn-- Mike designed an island with small boulders that will discourage folks from using my lawn instead of the road! It is both effective and beautiful. In addition, for no extra fee, they did many little extras that really made the experience exceed my expectations"

"I live in a house that is over 100 years old with a stone foundation that also forms the basement walls. The old mortar between the stones had deteriorated over the years to the point that water would seep in in multiple places along the perimeter of the basement wall. This seepage basically occurred after every rain, and I always needed to move objects stored in the basement away from the perimeter for fear that they would be water damaged. I actually wasn’t very confident that the seepage problem could be fixed, but I finally decided to contact several basement contractors to determine if there was anyway to waterproof the basement. I ultimately decided to hire Basement Gurus because Mike (initial company contact) sold me on the idea and that their workers were the best in the business. Well, it’s been seven weeks since the basement work was completed, and even though we’ve had a couple of nor’easters with heavy rain blow through the area, the basement has been bone dry; the basement work has been a resounding success! I take my hat off to all the good folks at Basement Gurus, in particular Mark, Dylan, Lenny and the other members of the team that worked hard to waterproof my basement. In sum, I would highly recommend to other homeowners who may be experiencing similar basemen water seepage problems to consider Basement Gurus as their “go-to” company."

"

I contacted Grove Brothers Masonry through the email link on Angie's List on Nov 8 and received a reply from Kevin, the owner, the next day.  Scheduled an appointment for Friday morning, Nov 11 to review and discuss options.  Kevin was at my house at the appointed time, reviewed all of the above needs with me, and gave me several options (along with his recommendation as to which was the best approach) as to fixing the porch.  He gave me an estimate on the spot and I asked him to go ahead and get me a contract and let me know when he could do the work, as I wanted to get it done before the weather got too cold, wet and/or snowy to do the repairs.

I received the written contract via email on Nov 16, along with Kevin's request to begin the work on either Nov 17 or 18, depending on weather, as the weather was too wet for another patio job he had scheduled and he could fit my smaller job into the opening (there was a LOT of rain that week).  It also rained on Nov 17, but the crew (Harry and Travis) arrived about 8:30 on Friday, Nov 18.  That day they removed all the paver bricks from the front porch and removed the crumbling concrete pad below.  They originally planned to be back on Monday, Nov 21 to lay the new concrete pad, but Harry told me Kevin had asked if he was able to work on Saturday (the next day), so they would be back then.  Kevin was also at the job site mid-morning to check on progress, and he called later to let me know that the crew would be back on Saturday, and on Saturday Nov 19 they mixed and poured the concrete for the new porch.

The crew was back on Monday, Nov 21 to lay the new brick on the new concrete pad - they were able to re-use some of my brick but not all, but the contract included any additional brick needed.  Porch looked fantastic.  Due to continued rain, they were not able to come back as scheduled on Wednesday Nov 23 to do the acid wash to clean the brick and finish the repointing in the other areas.  However, they were back on Monday, Nov 28 after Thanksgiving.  At that time Travis did the acid wash on the porch, finished remortaring the loose bricks on the steps, repointed the bricks on either side of the garage, and repointed and added a waterproofing to the exterior side of the garage to solve the water problem.

In terms of the crew, Harry, who Kevin said had been with Grove Brothers for 40 years, is clearly a MASTER mason.  When assessing the porch before tearing it out and laying new concrete and brick, he gave his opinion on how to lay some of the front brick for a better appearance - and it was right on.  Travis, working under Harry's direction, also knew his trade and obviously was experienced enough to run "solo" for the finishing work.  During the work, the work areas were left clear and as clean as feasible; the work area was totally cleaned when Travis finished the work.  During the job, Kevin also stopped by each day the crew was there and was in regular communication with me via email.

I have been totally pleased with this company's responsiveness as well as the quality of their work, and have told Kevin I will be calling him in the spring for some additional work that was not time-sensitive nor as required for safety concerns as the crumbling front porch.

I was initially concerned because of some of the reviews regarding responsiveness (or lack thereof) - and I asked Kevin about that.  Obviously the reviews from people who actually USED his services were much more positive, and I found his explanation that he was overwhelmed with the response to the Angie's List deal he offered plausible - they are a small company, and apparently received almost as many calls in response to the deal as they do jobs in the course of a year.  I am not excusing his lack of response, but clearly my experience was very different.

Also - even though Kevin does have a coupon with a percent off on new jobs posted on Angie's List, I chose not to use it.  I value quality tradesmen (and they are getting harder to find), and while cost is certainly a factor in my choice of any service vendor, the quality and dependability of the vendor are more important to me.  You get what you pay for - the cost I was quoted for the work was fair, and the end result met and exceeded my expectations.  I would definitely recommend Grove Brothers to anyone in need of master masonry work."

FAQs for concrete foundation raise projects in New Windsor, MD

On average, it takes two to seven days to physically raise your house. However, this does not include the preparation work, which is often the most lengthy process. The entire project, including preparation, obtaining permits, disconnecting utilities, and any subsequent landscaping, can take four to eight weeks. This timeline ensures everything is done safely and that your home remains structurally sound.

If proper safety protocols are not followed, raising a house can cause severe damage, as the process involves applying controlled force to the home's structure. The risks involved make it crucial to hire a skilled contractor who uses engineered methods to secure your home and prevent any harm to your household.

If your foundation shows signs of instability after raising your home, you might need to add structural support. A structural engineer can assess your foundation and recommend reinforcements to ensure your house stays stable and safe for the long term. Available support options include installing additional piers or pilings, reinforcing existing footings, or using steel beams to distribute the load more evenly.

You will need a structural engineer to assess your home before you begin. These professionals determine whether your house is suitable for lifting and identify any issues that could compromise its stability. Their expertise ensures that the project is designed correctly and all risks are managed to achieve a successful lift.
