"We had damage to our house from the Spring storms and some wood rot on the bottom of the trim on both of our garage doors. We hired Apex Design Build after they had a special on Angie's List. They replaced the shutter on our home, replaced some trim that came off in the storm that was above our two story entry way, painted all the shutters on our house and replaced the trim/weather stripping on our two garage doors with PVC that won't rot. They were very easy to work with and did a wonderful job on our house. We won't hesitate to call them again; in fact, we are going to have them do some more work on our house."

"Aztez representative and workers were prompt and courteous. Overall the job turned out OK and looks nice. The James Hardie stucco sheets and trim were installed in a manner that is much better and should be more weather resistant than original stucco sheets. All trim pieces, including angle cuts, were cut by hand with a circular saw but look very good. Notes from the job that lead to my overall rating. 1) Aztec representative and workers communicated very well with me to discuss and decide on options for specific details to ensure the overall look and appearance was maintained. 2) Instead of removing the old siding, I was talked into installing the new sheets over the existing sheets. Because of this, I asked repeatedly to be informed of any damage or deterioration due to water intrusion (old siding had rotted in several locations) and to remove/repair any damage prior to installing the new sheets and trim. To my knowledge, this did not happen because I caught working covering up one location that needed repair. I was disappointed this was not brought to my attention. Were there other areas of damage that were covered up and not repaired? I'll never know. 3) Job was quoted with 2 coats of paint. Paint was sprayed and completed in 1 day. I asked how it was possible to apply 2 coats of paint in one day without letting the 1st coat dry. I was told, 2 passes with the sprayer was the equivalent of 2 coats of paint. I was not aware of this practice and not sure this really constitutes the equivalent of 2 coats of paint. While I noted that I would hire again, this would only be with closer oversight. The latter 2 issues left me with the opinion that the priority of the workers was to get the job done as quickly as possible with less emphasis on quality of work. While I have given a passing grade, there is opportunity for improvement."

"Our brick ranch house was in need of TLC on the old fiber board siding, which my wife and I have painted four times ourselves. We wanted to make the exterior maintenance free with a good quality vinyl siding. We contacted five separate companies, four of which were listed in Angie’s list, to get estimates. We chose The Home Improvement Co. They were neither the highest nor the lowest estimate. We based our decision on the reviews in Angie’s list, pictures of the work that had been accomplished on other jobs, and Matt’s straight forward honest presentation. Matt convinced us that one of the most important details of this work is an experienced crew that knows how to work with the material. We had chosen the insulated backed vinyl siding. The crew (Kevin and Rueben) and Matt arrived Friday and started the demolition on the west side of the house. We were having all the old siding removed and replaced with new board, moisture barrier, and the vinyl siding. They completed that side including cleanup in one day. The whole job was completed by the following Friday. The crew was great. They were friendly and professional, and they worked well together as a team. They answered any question we had and honored any request we made. They also wrapped all the windows and doors with aluminum coil. They transformed the exterior of our home. We are completely satisfied. We comment to each other every time we pull into the driveway how good our home looks now. We still plan on replacement windows and a new back door. "Professional installation. Took longer then quoted but was pleased with the results. Staff friendly and corrected anything that was not right. Price was competitive with other quotes but the difference was that they always kept in touch with email or per phone on any changes or concerns. We were glad to have chosen this company out of the three interviewed for the job. They seemed to care and had pride in the job to be completed. John from sales was great to work with.

"I own a house built in 1925 that previous owners left in very poor shape. I'm in the process of remodeling it. I met with Gary, Federal's owner, and immediately liked and trusted him. We talked about what kind of windows I wanted and the price range. He demonstrated a model of the one he recommened. I agreed. We met and I signed the contract and gave him a key to the house so I wouldn't have to be there. The installers came, and measured the windows. It took a few weeks for the new windows to arrive from the manufacturer, which gave me time to clear areas of construction materials for the installers to work. Federal called on a Monday to say they wanted to begin the installation on Wednesay. By Wednesday night they had all of the windows installed except for the basement, which were by far the worst. These windows had rusted metal frame set in concrete and to make matters worse the previous owner had used foam insulation to try to keep them from leaking. They were very difficult to remove. The installers completed the job on Thursday and I couldn't be more please. They did an excellent job and the new windows are perfect."
