"Completed work looked great! We'd replaced the lighting in our kitchen and had some 6-inch diameter holes, from the previous light fixtures, that needed to be patched. Textured plaster also needed to be matched. The two men from Castle did an excellent job; quality craftsmanship plus they were super tidy and cleaned up any debris they might've created during their work. Would definitely hire Castle again."

"This was a very involved plaster repair and remediation job, in a very old house. Grady is the only person (or company) who was willing to take on the job and drive all the way from Pennsylvania to our home in Northern Virginia. There are very few people who do this kind of work anymore (we really searched) and he is an expert in his field. We needed to work around his schedule, because he is in demand in the tri-state area, so it took awhile to schedule the work to begin... but it was worth it."

"I certanily would have but did not hire Mills Plastering after Mike and I discussed this project at length. He provided a very favorable estimate of the drywall installation and also took the time to explaing what additional work would be necessary for me to reinstall all the room trim (I had told him I would remove and reinstall). He told me to think about it before committing to the project. After I trial fit some door trim I realized it was more work than I was willing to take on so we just painted the paneling. Another contractor might have just taken my money. Highly recommeded."

"The work was awesome. We had the old fiberglass tub and surround from the 80's. Wolak came in and replaced it with a new deep soak tub and tile surround. New tile on the floor. Replaced the vanity and toilet. Even the exhaust fan. They also replaced sheetrock and painted to give us a new modern bathroom look. Wolak didn't need to rely on any sub-contractors. Like a one-stop-shop for remodelling. The installer was very friendly and professional. He listened carefully to what we had in mind, made some great suggestions and now we have a dream bathroom. Thank you Mark and Chris!!!!"

"Tommy was quick to call back and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate. Received estimate within a few days and based on estimate and Angie's list reviews we decided to go with Always Painting.
Tommy provided us with a start date and he and Lou showed up at 9 Am ready to work. They stayed at it all day and when they left everything was put away and they even set me up a spot in the middle of all the chaos so I could watch tv!  The next day Lou was there and worked another full day. He did an excellent job prepping the walls and was really conscientious about having a perfect surface (we had several spots with cracks and previous poorly repaired spots). The job took about 3 days for the inside which was exactly what Tommy had said. The exterior work took another day.
These guys took so much care to clean everything up. Lou got on his hands and knees to make sure my would floors were spotless. When they left I was so pleased with how everything looked. Absolutely perfect!
I agree with the other reviewers. Always painting by Tommy is the team you want painting your house.

"Mr. Mike himself saved us. We paid and had an installation scheduled after purchasing a new Range Hood from Home Depot but was surprised that on the day of the install, no one showed up! We waited for a Home Depot Contractor to arrive all day.... finally after several hours of waiting contacted their service office to find that resolution wouldn't happen for several days and we had a planned graduation party the following day. Thought of Mike and contacted him... he came over right away and installed the hood range. His price was extremely reasonable. Home Depot's installation price was $150 and Mike's price was $60. So as I initially started out by saying, Mike saved the day! Our family would like to do business again! Thanks, Mike!"

FAQs for plaster service projects in Norfolk, VA

Professionals plastering contractors begin by prepping the project area and mixing the dry plaster with water. They wet their tools to prevent sticking and apply the plaster onto the wall. After smoothing out the first coat, they apply a thinner second coat, continuing to smooth the wall until it's even.

You can plaster or skim coat over old plaster if it's still in good condition. Applying a new coat over the old one works best for small cracks or minor repairs. If your plaster is in poor shape, consider having your pro remove the old plaster before installing new plaster.

Plaster can crack over time due to structural settling or minor shifts within the wall. When cracks appear, they must be addressed immediately to maintain the integrity of the wall. A skilled plaster repair professional should evaluate the crack, perform the necessary repairs, and inspect for any underlying issues such as foundation movement or damaged lath. This proactive repair not only preserves your wall’s appearance but also prevents larger future problems.

Plaster drying and curing are critical aspects of any project. Plaster dries to the touch within one to four hours after application, but full curing takes several days up to two weeks. Complete curing ensures the plaster hardens completely, safeguarding against future damage and guaranteeing a flawless finish before painting or adding texture. Extra layers or a thicker application extend the overall curing period, so careful planning around your project timeline is essential.

Painting over plaster is definitely possible when proper preparation is followed. The plaster must be entirely cured, and any cracks or imperfections must be repaired immediately before painting. A high-quality primer is required to ensure excellent paint adhesion, and applying a durable latex paint with a satin finish guarantees a resilient and smooth surface. These steps maintain the wall’s beauty and longevity.
