"We've had a lot of renovation work done on our house over the last several years, and Superior Kitchens And Baths was the best company that we've worked with overall. Jane, Brandon, and their entire crew and subcontractors were all great to work with. They were very responsive, hard working, professional, stuck closely to their schedules, and did high quality work across the board. Additionally, Jane, Brandon, and Dustin are genuinely nice people that were great to get to know and interact with throughout the effort. From the start, Jane and Brandon came up with creative solutions to allow us to get everything we wanted in the renovation, and figured out potential pitfalls and workarounds before the work even started. They were great with helping us decide on overall designs and individual items throughout the work. They put together a thorough breakdown of costs for their proposal that they tracked throughout the effort, as well as a schedule that they stuck closely to. When unforeseen circumstances came up with folks getting sick and being unable to work, Brandon worked long days and weekends to keep caught up with their schedule. They seemed to treat the job like it was their own house. Overall, we'd highly recommend them, and would hire them again for any future work."

"We were offered a few options, from bare bones, to top of the line. We went with middle of the road, and looks great. Used the paint we had and cleaned up the old plaster walls nicely."

"I contacted Peter because I was concerned about my hot water heater. It was close to 16 years old and I knew I was living on borrow time. Peter outlined all of my options for replacement heaters including reimbursements from MassSave and addressed the concerns I had about some of the options. In the end, I had him install the electric heater. Peter does great work and is more responsive than anyone I have met on Angie's List. I would recommend him to anyone."

"I thought my disposal had died and would need replacement.  One of Cuddy's plumbers showed up promptly, despite snowy streets, and got it going with a couple of simple moves; he would only accept payment for his time and the trip.  He also showed me what to do if the situation recurs.  Considering that he could have sold me a new disposal and made a lot more money, I appreciated his ethical choice in doing the repair and then showing me how to deal with it in future.

"So Many Problems!! (though they tried hard to resolve them) Do NOT make the mistake we did and let them talk you out of pulling a permit. The work by this contractor should definitely be inspected. MA Design quoted a low price, used cheap (Home Depot grade) materials, and relied on workers with limited English skills. Plumbing and carpentry were problematic, seemingly due to inadequate training for some workers, spotty communication and quality control from supervisors, and some sloppy attention to detail. We should add that our foreman, John L, and the workmen were willing enough to fix problems after we discovered them, though we had to pay for time and materials when we found MA Design’s quality standards to be unacceptable. The end result of the bathroom remodeling seems OK and we hope that no more nasty surprises turn up in the future. The two supervisors are generally courteous and anxious to please, but poor communication with their workers and sometimes with us seemed to be typical for this contractor. Here are specific examples of our problems: PLUMBING 1. The plumber (apparently not licensed) installed the wrong shower controller in the wall, tiled over the wall, then tried to hide this mistake by sticking on the control handle taken from the shower controller we had specified. Of course, the controller did not work properly and we discovered what had happened by poking through the unused shower parts and calling the manufacturer. To correct this error, MA Design had to cut a hole in the plaster wall of our hallway. MA Design did repair the plaster but now we have an additional painting job because of their mistake. 2. We also discovered that their “plumber” tried to attach the tub spigot to flexible PEX tubing rather than to a solid copper pipe anchored to a stud in the wall. The spigot worked loose in just a few days. No qualified plumber would have made such a rookie mistake. Repairing this error also required the hole in our hallway wall. Clearly, no qualified supervisor inspected the plumbing before the tile went up in the shower enclosure. 3. Just 2 months after MA Design wrapped up the work, we found a serious water leak coming from the ceiling below the remodeled bathroom. This ruined the ceiling and of course ruined the paint job we had just completed in the room below the leak. To their credit, the supervisor quickly came out, cut a hole in the ceiling, and replaced a flawed PEX tubing fitting with a quick-apply fitting to stop the leak. MA Design then cut away large sections of water-damaged ceiling in two rooms, let things dry out for a few weeks, and applied mold-kill spray to address the mold that had formed. It seems that a fitting on the PEX tubing was not properly crimped. This reinforced our belief that the MA Design workers doing plumbing on our job were not well qualified and that MA Design did not choose to or did not know how to inspect work adequately. Several weeks later, MA Design eventually had the joint repaired by a licensed plumber and repaired the holes in the ceiling. 4. The shower enclosure tiling was done OK for the most part but we found holes in the grout around some tiles. We suspect that the grout job was substandard for another reason: the grout sealing the tub to the floor is cracking and flaking after only 2 months. CARPENTRY 5. We replaced the bathroom window with a safety glass window but MA Design replaced the prior window trim and window sill with lesser quality trim and no window sill whatsoever. This was a complete mismatch with the rest of the house. MA Design quoted use of “standard” trim. If MA Design’s estimate assumed replacing trim with something so obviously out of place with the rest of the house, this should have been clearly stated in the quote. We ended up paying to rip out their trim and replace with trim that matched the rest of the house. In fact, the lumberyard’s “standard” trim exactly matched the trim elsewhere in the house so we felt that MA Contracting’s use of “standard” to describe their materials was deceptive. 6. They also installed a new window in an adjacent room. They made the exterior windowsill out of a very knotty piece of pine, inviting future rot. Even worse, no drip edge was cut into the underside of the sill, which could lead to water wicking under the sill and getting into the exterior siding. No well qualified carpenter would have made a mistake like that. PAINTING 7. MA Design did very little painting for us, just some primer application after drywall installation. Still, the workman on our job made a rookie mistake. He applied primer to a repaired ceiling with a rough wall roller and then applied primer to the doorway trim with that same roller rather than with a brush or smooth roller. The result: the formerly smooth doorway trim now had a rough, thick layer of paint that looked and felt awful. It took us 2 hours of sanding to restore the doorway trim to a smooth surface. This experience reinforced our general impression that many, if not most, MA Design workmen are not properly skilled or trained for the work they are doing. COORDINATION & COMMUNICATION 8. We agreed at the outset which fixtures were to be bought by MA Design and which by us, but MA Design sometimes bought the wrong items, which resulted in confusion and delays. In many cases, we ended up buying the needed fixtures ourselves just to keep the project moving. 9. On at least 10 days, workers were expected but none showed up and MA Design did not call to inform us of this in advance."

"Given the complexity of the project, it went as smoothly as something like this can go. Hagit developed a very functional and attractive design based around an island that would seat 3, along with a variety of cabinetry. She was very patient when we wanted a number of adjustments. She accompanied us to pick out counters and backsplash, and always seemed to have good ideas for selections according to our tastes. Brian mapped out the engineering, which included moving a support beam, together with an engineering firm. He also mapped out a three-month schedule with the various subcontractors the firm uses, like the plumber, electrician, plasterer, counter people, floor people, etc. They all had lots of experience with this kind of work, and in working with KCF. Brian worked hard to ensure that new wood flooring would match well with existing flooring just outside the new kitchen. The KCF team also took a lot of care to set things up in our condo to create barriers to minimize dust and dirt, and try to ease our inconvenience; they even loaned us a microwave to use in our temporary kitchen in the basement. For the most part, subs showed up as scheduled, and did good work. KCF also coordinated all the town inspections. There were only a few glitches--the biggest one was when the tiles for the backsplash arrived broken, and it took some weeks to get replacements. The tile outfit wasn't very responsive, and seemed not to care much. But KCF kept on with all the other work, and the tiles were finally put in pretty much near the end. We have used the kitchen for a couple months now and love it. The design and craftsmanship all worked well. Going through a kitchen re-do is never a pleasant experience, but KCF made it as painless as possible."

"Initial calls for gut kitchen and adjacent bathroom renovation + removal of load bearing wall went well with Sabrina and Ray - they assured us they have done many similar projects in the area successfully and on time. From the many positive and detailed yelp/google/houzz/angi reviews that had great end result pictures, we were convinced to move forward. Sabrina turned around the estimate for labor and some materials allowance quickly along with separate helpful tiered pricing guidance PDFs for kitchen and bathroom finishes to be purchased separately. Tile guidance was a bit off and a few categories like vanity, counter, mirror, light fixture in bathroom and plumbing for kitchen were missing. Vendors showed us finishes across all price tiers so it took us an extra week to finalize selections. Unfortunately we were told this delayed the project by a month. We were asked to wait on the kitchen design until after the engineering work for removal of the load bearing wall and addition of shear walls. Since we had a choice on the location of the shear walls, we preferred to do the design in tandem. I used cabinets.com to create my own rendering of the kitchen layout we wanted and provided them the full dimensions. The day before the approved structural wall work was to begin they sent their own drawing which had the wrong wall locations. After talking to both David and Dayna we realized her and the designer were not brought up to speed on the engineering work. Dayna then setup a productive Zoom call with the designer directly and we got my drawing to be updated with a few suggestions and required spacing and panels. The biggest mistake in the project came from one of their subcontractors employees who removed the plastic cover over our basement sink and cleaned off tools and plaster in it clogging the drain. Bay State quickly sent the drywall guy back over to unclog it. The project took just under 4 months to complete. Bay State and their subcontractors apart from the sink issue did not cut corners, often went above and beyond, and completed top quality finishes. No up-charge on materials was another big positive. The actual work done by the plumber (Mr Fix-It), electrician (Marcus Quintino), tile guys, drywall guy, cabinets guys, floor guys, and painters (AJA Painting) was excellent and we are very happy with our new space. Marcio was the MVP of their team - always calm, listened attentively to our many questions, provided great suggestions, and constantly asked the subcontractors to clean up. If they forgot, he cleaned up himself. His wife also worked tirelessly all day cleaning up at the end of the project. Things constantly move around and change during construction and it was difficult to get a clear picture of the plan each day. Andreina and at the start Dayna heard from us every week and always answered the phone and tried their best to chase down answers from others and get us the latest information. The billing process is very straightforward and Andreina provided further detail on line items as needed. Jose was always positive and happy to pass along feedback from us to the office when he swung by. Sabrina provided helpful guidance at the start in choosing our cabinets, counters, and hardware. David continually helped move the project along and has ensured everything is to our liking while encouraging us to pass along any punch list items. I would recommend Bay State for their quality of work, integrity, and communication. My main constructive feedback is on the design process and keeping everyone in sync throughout the project on the latest information."

"Given my architect's drawings, Ivaldo provided a very reasonable quote and stuck to it. There were several times where we needed to add on or make changes, and the price was always very reasonable for these upgrades. We also had some challenging foundation work and no room to bring in big equipment, and Ivaldo had a lot of experience dealing with these challenges, which played a big factor in hiring him. Later, we had some major scheduling issues with the utility company (Eversource) that complicated the schedule quite a bit, and were totally out of our control. These delays made the process somewhat stressful but none of this was any fault of Ivaldo's. His guys were courteous and respectful. Quality was also very good other than one issue with tiling, but Ivaldo will always make good on anything that you're not happy with. They'll get the job done, and charge you what it costs plus a reasonable rate for themselves. Overall, a full gut renovation is a major undertaking, and nobody should expect something this big to be smooth and stress-free. I have no regrets in hiring them and plan to call them back when the house needs work."

"Very well. Rob was punctual and informative. He took his time explaining to me in colloquial terminology what was happening, not only with the intended project, but a few other things going on in our old house. He then went about working diligently replacing the drain and faucets in our tub. The work took a day and he charged far less then another quote we got from another plumber. Rob had to cut through a very thick and tough tile and cement wall to access the drain. Once the plumbing was installed, he then covered the hole with a plate which turned out to be a good option for the tub aesthetically."
