"Hamilton's price was competitive. The phone representative sound professional and courteous. However, the technician they sent seem very inexperience. He was performing the work (collecting asbestos samples) via Facetime with another senior technician. Also, he only brought a 2-step ladder trying to climb and pull himself up into the attic; he requested to come back the next day, which I'm not available. I ended up borrowing a 3-step ladder from the occupant for the technician. It was risky seeing him pulling himself up into the attic. On his way down, I have to spot him landing his foot on the ladder since the borrowed ladder was still not tall enough."

"ASI installed this system about 10 years ago, along with a new furnace and new ducts, so I called them to come fix it. The first tech that came out determined that the coolant level was low so he topped it off, without ever looking for the leak. He also changed the compressor start capacitor, for which he charged me about $300, and the condensate pump, also about $300. The total price was sky high, especially the price for the replacement refrigerant, about $43 per pound. This system uses R410A refrigerant, available on Amazon at a price of $99.95 for a 25 pound tank, or about $4 per pound. Thus ASI is charging roughly a 1000% markup. And no, you don't need any license to buy R410A, the EPA considers it environmentally benign. This "repair" lasted about 3 weeks, until the new refrigerant had leaked out. I called ASI again, thinking that their workmanship warranty might apply as the repair had failed. But I was told by the next tech who came out that I would have to pay for a leak test, at $320 per hour, with no guarantee that the test would find the leak and no limit on the number of hours that it would take. I can't afford to sign a blank check like that so I decided to seek another opinion. I called another HVAC outfit, highly rated on Angie's List, and they came out and found the leak in about 15 minutes, albeit at a flat rate of $310 for performing the test. When the tech found out that ASI had installed the system he advised me to call them to do the repair since it was "their install". He did quote me a repair price for the new parts and labor but it seemed too high so I called ASI again. They insisted on repeating the leak test, to which I reluctantly agreed. They also found the leak in about 15 minutes but of course charged me for a full hour. The part that was leaking was not in stock so I had to wait about 3 weeks for them to get it – seems the manufacturer only makes them when they get an order. They finally came out and installed the new part and the system has been OK ever since. The new part has a 10 year warranty, the old one had only a 5 year warranty so it did last twice its design life. So 4000 dollars later my A/C now works, just seems that the prices were outrageous throughout the process, both from ASI and the other outfit I called for the second opinion. I do think that the first tech that ASI sent out fell down on the job when he didn't even mention that there had to be a leak, refrigerant is not a consumable in these systems, Someone at ASI should have noticed this and let me know that the original repair was incomplete and that the refrigerant would inevitably leak out again. This oversight cost me at least $400 in lost refrigerant and there was no offer form ASI to cover that cost even though it was their oversight that allowed the leak to continue after the first service call."

"The crew at Ceiling Specialist did an excellent job with my ceilings! I was under a deadline to have work done in my unit and they were expeditious in the removal of the acoustic ceiling, retexture, and painting. They used high quality materials for the work. The workers were extremely friendly and took great care with clean-up each day. I have 2 floors and vaulted ceilings which can pose quite a challenge, but the work was consistently top notch through the entire unit. In all honesty, I just couldn't live with the popcorn ceiling in my unit. It looked so bad (even worse on vaulted ceilings), I don't know how others in my complex have managed, but I will be recommending Ceiling Specialists to them as well."

"Nathan did the estimate/ testing earlier this year. In April I called and scheduled a time to have the work performed. That was very easy and he was great. He not only got rid of the mold, but since it was growing into some old cabinets that I've always hated, he ripped those out as well per my request. It took several days to dry out the area, but I couldn't be happier with his work, his professionalism, and his price. My neighbor asked what was happening in my garage, and he remembered paying $4,000 for a similar job up in laguna beach. I would absolutely use nathan again if I ever needed to. Always punctual, helpful, and pleasant to have in my home. "

"We had several issues that caused us to contact a company that can come over and check our house for any problem that can be solved and reduced our utilities bills. We contact this company and we asked them to come over and see what they can do. Avi came over and explained to us how they work and what they do in order to determine what can be done. The initial work included sealing all the openings in the house and then they made some tests with special machine that made a clear picture that our air conditioning system have some leaks that causing the system to work extra time. After they completed the testing, Avi came over with another crew of workers and fixed the ducts making sure that there will be no more leaks from that area. The work that they did was good because they made a massive testing before they came to the conclusion about the air conditioning ducts.

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Oceanside, CA

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
